Is it time to plant?

I live in eastern NY and the snow is gone, PTL
How can I tell if it is planting time? I grew some things in containers last year but want to do a lot more this year. Don't want to plant too soon and waste my time though lol

Not speaking from experience...


but I heard that there has never been a freeze after Mothers Day in recorded history. So, many people choose to plant on or very close to Mothers Day.
