Okay, I'm preg with our fourth babe. I CD'd with the first three but never really committed (always kept a stash of sposies for lazy days...which sometimes turned into lazy months!!
). This time I'd like to really not buy ANY sposies and do it 110%.

So, I have a good collection of covers (various types, mostly bought at yard sales and hand me downs). I am currently knitting up some soakers and longies. And I have a pretty good collection of cotton prefolds that have been through all three kids. Some are pretty thread bare and need to be put in the rag basket. Now that I can probably afford it, I'd love to cover babe's bottom in organic or hemp.

Should I dump all the old cotton dypes and invest in a good collection of orgainc dypes? Have the old cotton dypes been washed enough to not worry about organic?

What would you do???
TIA

One more thing- it is definitely worth the investment. Even if this is the last child you cloth-diaper, you will still save tons of money by using cloth. I'm pg with my 4th child and don't have any of the same diapers I had with the first (I do lots of buying and selling!). But I'm still saving money over using disposables.

I would use what you have and add organics as needed

Good for you for wanting to totally commit.
I was like you...before our 5th I was still an occassional sposie user. (For sitters or vacation) But our 5th baby broke out in the most evil rashes that I couldn't EVER use a sposie on her...and once I really researched it I vowed to NEVER again buy a single chemical-filled throw-away diaper.

If I were you I would take the opportunity to put together a really yummy stash.
Keep whatever is still usuable...and then buy some nice, soft, squishy diapers (and maybe a few covers) to make diapering fun. I find if you have some fluff that you really love you'll be more likely to use it (and actually look forward to it!) Definately treat your baby to organic cotton!!! It's not that much more expensive.

Let us know what you're thinking of (just prefolds or do you want to try fitteds this time?) & we can give you some great recommendations on where to find what you're looking for.

Are the fitteds more expensive than the prefolds?
Maybe I'll get a few of each infant/newborn size and see how I like them. Then as babe grows I can get more of what I like the best.
Thanks so much for all the help here!! I'm sure I'll be following with some stupid washing questions soon!!
