if you don't NEED to and if your means for using it will be using it to get out of debt faster? At this point I don't even know if it will save us money but I'm asking just to get opinions. We have a lot of credit card debt and I want to get out of debt as quick as we can (neither of us use CC anymore) I feel kinda weird about ordering a box but I don't know if it is from pride or because it is actually WRONG. I used a debt calculator and we CAN be out of CC debt in one year if I really tighten our budget.

TIA!

If there is a limit as to how many people they can provide for and they usually reach that limit then I would say it is unethical for someone who can afford to buy food to use Angel Food.

I was wondering the same thing today. I was offered a free box of food that would greatly help us. Its from faith based government grant ( and we aren't part of the faith) that sponsors it at IL's church..no limits , income guidelines...but we can buy food...at least now unless gas goes up again or our only car dies ..and its not paid off ( working on that)...but the food bill (GF/CF) is as much as our rent!

How would I check to see if that is the case?

from their website

There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications.

Everyone is encouraged to participate. Some churches even encourage participants to apply the money they saved to help someone else in need.

Then not only is it not wrong its also not unethical!

Angel Food Ministries netted 8 million dollars last year.

They were also just raided by the FBI.
The family that founded the ministry is raking in millions in salary and unsecured loans.

IMO, while it is technically a nonprofit charity, they are obviously making money on every box they sell and I have decided that it is OK for my family to join the ranks of their customers.

Not wrong at all. There are no qualifications at all and it is for everyone who wants it. Go for it and get out of debt!

It is like a co-op, you buy in your share.

We tried AFM just to save money on meat and groceries. Their steaks were disgusting. The fat on the side was not marbled. It was hard and a bluish color as well as the texture being...ICK. They would try to give me stuff like Hawaiian Punch or whatever that red food coloring crap is and I said my kids were allergic. They said to give it to my neighbors and I said no way. I think 90% of the stuff you get is crap and if I would go meatless before eating their food again. (Not that their is anything wrong with that, but I know you can get protein from other sources)

If you need food and get it for free, that is different, but I really hated the food we got. Sorry.

I've heard various opinions on the food quality, some places seem to be better than others (at least that is what I've gathered from online) If we do this I will order one box, see what the quality is and then decide from there, thanks~

Doesn't exactly sound like they are a none profit organisation after reading that article. How on earth can the Wingo's earn so much money? That artical raises many questions!
