We've been getting into kefir in our house (can't wait to get our grains from Peace!). DW has been having a 6oz glass every morning with some blueberries mixed in (we have the plain Helios kind for now). So, within 10 minutes of drinking it she has a burst of energy that is almost giddy "high" energy. It lasts for a while. She doesn't crash, but we're just intrigued to know whether this is from the kefir. If so, can someone explain it?

thanks!
I've experienced that too. I've heard that kefir gives you a sense of wellbeing when drinking. I recently read an article that linked a certain type of good bacteria (found in the soil and in grass fed milk) to increased seratonin levels in the brain. Researchers are looking into whether or not it can be used to treat depression. Perhaps its the good bacteria giving her that high. Of course, kefir is also slightly alchoholic.

Great! Good to know she's in good company. And now I'll have to drink more to try to get that feeling...don't spread the word too wide or else it may become illegal!

They might put a ban on it like with raw milk etc. I get an instant and even better sense of wellbeing from lacto fermented sauerkraut. I had to go out yesterday and buy more glass jars to make more kraut. I just can't keep up. I finish a whole jar long before it is at it's best.

Helios kefir has quite a bit of sugar, perhaps that's where the "buzz" is coming from? I've always though it to be a bit too sweet.

We make our own kefir here & neither I, nor my Dds have ever gotten a burst of energy from it......
