I think LLL would want to know. They dumped their link to Dr. Sears' website in the past when they found out he had a formula company link at his site.

Your Bottle-Fed Baby Although there are distinct advantages to breast feeding your baby and most pediatricians recommend it over bottle-feeding, how you feed your baby is your choice and your choice alone. If you feel that breast-feeding is not for you, you should not feel pressured or guilty for not choosing to breast feed your baby. There are advantages to both. Bottle-feeding will allow your baby's father to participate more in the care of his baby. He will be able to know the feelings of joy and be able to bond and nurture his baby while he is feeding a bottle. Many fathers of breast fed babies find that this is not an option open for them because many breast-fed babies do not receive a bottle so that nipple confusion does not become an obstacle. If you choose to bottle feed your baby you should take steps to ensure that your baby's bottles are clean and that he or she is receiving the correct type and amount of formula. |
Before your baby is born you should do some research to determine what is practical for you and your baby. You will need to decide whether or not you want to bottle feed or breastfeed your baby. No matter what the research says the most important thing is that you are comfortable with the choice you have made. If you find that you may be uncomfortable breastfeeding your baby you should not breastfeed. One of the most important things that you should know about breastfeeding is that in the beginning some women may find that it is uncomfortable; some women may also find it awkward, and some may find it painful or even embarrassing. If after a week or so you still cannot overcome these feelings so that you may nurse comfortably you should switch to bottle-feeding. No matter how healthy the breast milk is for your baby, if you are uncomfortable your child will be as well. If you choose to bottle-feed your baby you will have some advantages that a nursing mother does not have. Your baby's father or another person will be able to feed your baby so that you can get some much-needed rest. This will allow bonding between the baby and another caregiver. It will be easier for you to go back to work because your will not have to worry about expressing milk for the baby. Also, formula does offer nutrients and vitamins for your baby and it too is a good choice for both you and your baby. If you have any questions or concerns about what to feed your baby you should speak to your healthcare provider. |
