I'll start off this post by first stating that this may be against the UA, even without going off-topic (which I hope it doesn't)... and if it gets pulled, I fully understand!

Today on 'The View' (04/19/07), they were talking/debating the recent court ruling against partial birth abortions. O'Donnell, being very liberal of course, was very much against this, saying it's every woman's right to choose; to decide what happens to her own body.

This struck as very hypocritical, since SHE chose to circumcise both her sons. I would ask Rosie if bodily rights only apply to females?

Here's where it can get a little dicey: On the one hand, she doesn't want the government to decide what happens to a person's body (the abortion issue), but on the other hand, I'd like to see them outlaw MGM (male genital mutilation). : But, perhaps it's not the same, since this law essentially PROTECTS the right to choose (their gential integrity when they become of age). This last paragraph is an after-thought, and I thought I'd just throw it in.

Once again, I apologize in advance if this thread cannot be combined w/ an off-topic subject (tie-in).

I'm game to give my $.02.

It is hypocritical. If she doesn't want the gov't to tell a woman what to do with her body she should also stand firmly that it is the individual's choice (not a parent's choice).

The gov't should protect the individual's choice to choose what happens to his/her body and the gov't can protect that individual's choice (i.e. it is not the parent's choice) until they are old enough to make informed consent (this applies to circ - I don't want to go off topic on the abortion issue).

I have always hated how she has actually made jokes about putting her sons through circumcisions and then is so outraged over other things. She is icky IMO.

Wow. I am impressed with you ladies. I thought I was the only one who thought she was a raging hypocrite. She constantly contradicts herself on so many levels I can't even count anymore. Like, she supports gun control, but has armed guards for herself and her family, particularly her children. Not to get on that discussion, just an example.

It doesn't surprise me she circumcised her boys....since she is such a hypocrite.

YES! Supporting a woman's right to choose what happens to her own body while denying that baby boys (who will someday be grown men) have that right is totally hypocritical : It's akin to folks who say that girls have more right to genital integrity than boys do...

And the thread shouldn't get pulled, IMO, as long as we keep things going the way they are now

She defends a woman's right over her own body, but took away the rights of her sons.

Yeah, she is a hypocrite. Like the example you gave about her being pro-choice, yet she is pro-circ. She gets upset about discrimination against the gay population, yet she thinks it is ok to make racist jokes about chinese ppl. She's a HUGE hypocrite in my book.

I disagree with Rosie on many topics -- circ and breastfeeding being two main ones.

But the gun control stuff is just patently wrong, no matter what has been reported. She has said over and over that yes, she briefly got an armed escort for her family right after Columbine. She was NOT comfortable with it and ended the escort within a very short time. She admits that she did it, and feels she made a mistake.

There's enough stuff to disagree with Rosie about without spreading misquotes and half-facts.

Ok anyway, about Rosie, DH and I have always seen her as a huge hypocrite that constantly makes ignorant comments. She really bugs me.

you can ask her if she thinks that those rights only apply to females on her blog.

just google her name, i think her blog is one of the first things that will pop up. and when you get there, click on "ask ro". i doubt she'll post it, tho.

what a UA violation.

Ask-Ro: I asked this question:

How can you be so hypocritical to say women have a right to choose what happens to their bodies when you didn't give that choice to your circumcised sons??? Genital integrity is a human right, Ro. (200 character limit)

I'm PRETTY sure some Rosie.com staffer fields these questions, so I don't think it will get to the "boss", but it can't hurt to try, right?

i dunno, i think it depends on how you look at it. if you consider that rosie supports the abortion of a full-term fetus, then it is consistent for her to support genital mutilation on a newborn, which really isn't very different from a full-term fetus.
sad either way, though.
