So funny! Every kid I know has that floppy hair. I don't mind it, and think it can look cute, but it cracks me up that boys from very conservative families have this hair, lol. (My boss threatens his son w/ a haircut all the time since he hates it).<br><br>
It does bug me when it's in their eyes, though. I saw a teenage boy driving the other day, and he looked like a sheepdog. I don't know how he could see.<br><br>
(Wow, did I just say that? I sound like an Old Fart!). <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I remember being about 28 when I noticed that teens had hair and music that I didn't get. I always thought I'd be much older when I became officially 'old.'<br><br>
hee.<br><br>
I don't know how they stand their hair in their faces like that, it drives me batty for my hair to get anywhere near my eyes.

Well here in uk definitely! It's funny allright but not so funny if they are driving. The butt crack and jeans hanging down just astounded me when it first took on as did the thong out the top of girls jeans. I was in college coupla years ago as a mature oldie student and it was hilarious, one lad was late for our class came running in and his trousers actually fell right down, I guess he hadn't quite got it right lol. I had my fringe really long when I was a teen and stuck the rest about a foot high with eggwhite, also the ripped stripey footless tights, shorts over that, big boots, and holey jumpers down to my knees, not much change really as they all look like that now just a bit more designery, how I wish I'd got into designing and making clothes for a living which I had wanted to do. Yep I feel age coming on now but I really think it was all us that set the way for teens today to be able to express themselves with their attire. I think it's cool boys are getting into it, expressing themselves in this way too.

Here, the only haircut boys ever have is either completely buzzed (military style!) or... buzzed, with that little ******* tail in the back. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/duh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="duh"><br><br><br>
A few of the older high school boys have the shaggy look but not many at all. It's considered severely uncool.

My Ds has the long shaggy hair right now. I've seen plenty of boys with it, but I also see shorter looks (spiky on top, etc). My Ds doesn't care... he just likes it how he likes it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Severely rural California... up in the hills, surrounded by a lot of very conservative, white, republican farmers and rancher types. A LOT of the "kids" from the community ~ 18-25 y.o. ~ have been fighting in Iraq now for a number of years, which I think probably at least somewhat explains the pro-military look. A lot of parents make their younger kids conform to that, a solidarity with family members in the service type of thing.<br><br>
The ******* tail, that's just a local phenomenon.... it's EXTREMELY popular. Like a mullet, but without the hair on top / in the front. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

Joe has the shaggy bangs. He likes Drake & Josh & he wants to be like Drake, so he drew my sister a picture (front, back, & side views <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> ) & she cut it for him. He looks great. I get tired of seeing boys with short hair. I guess that's weird! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><br><br>
She gave my nephew a mohawk, now THAT's cute! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

Both of my boys have very long hair and wouldn't wear it any other way! I think they look great with it that way and that short hair looks odd. Here (Ohio) VERY few boys have short hair, I am happy to report.<br><br>
(Better watch it, though....the last "long hair on boys" thread got unceremoniously -- and inexplicably--banned from here. Still trying to figure that one out...<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/confused.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Confused">: )

Yeah, I would say that the emo/scene kids are everywhere by now. Even my toddler wears her hair this way. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

Yep, we've got it here, too. Funny thing, my dss thought it would bother me, and can't wrap his mind around why it doesn't (hehe<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngtongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue"> ) . . . my thoughts are, it's only hair. I kinda like it, actually. I can't wait until he's in his late 20s or so, looking back at pictures of himself at this stage . . . I know <i>I</i> cringe when I see how <i>I</i> looked in all the "cool" clothes from when I was younger <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/innocent.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="shy"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

oh gosh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Out of all things not that and it almost sounds worse without pictures. I sadly remember when tails were in, TG I thought they were ugly then.lol My cousin(girl) had one that was down to her shoulderblades, just this ugly 1-1.5" wide strip. My brothers had them but no where near as long.

My son and all his friends but a few have very long hair half way down their backs. Ds is half mexican so you can imagine how thick and heavy his is! As a shaved head mama it makes me hot just thinking about it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

It's not just the emo kids who wear their hair this way.

Nope, not just emo, it's a trend everywhere. It was VERY trendy when I was in high school but I guess it's back now! When I was in high school it was especially the rich preppy kids who had floppy hair like that.

The funny thing is, this trend goes in and out and has for a long time now.<br><br>
I like the "unkempt" look...I like to call it the "freedom hair" look. LOL
