We're talking about planning for #2, although #1 is only 15mo. I would feel somewhat terrible about my milk drying up if I got pregnant, as if two years of breast milk *just for him* is his birthright.

I know milk usually dries up around the fourth month, but is there anyone here whose milk never dried up at all, or for whom it was super temporary? I hope so much that if it does dry up for me, he'd nurse again when the milk came back.

I've had midwifery clients whose milk didn't dry up their whole pregnancy, or if it did, it was just the last few weeks (likely it was turning to colostrum though) and their nursing toddler was happy to resume in full swing once her supply was back up.

Personally, I still hear dd gulping during a long feed and I'm 27-28 weeks.

When I became pregnant I looked on this forum and the consensus from lots of people was that it inevitable dried up - just wanted to provide another perspective.

Mine didn't. DD1 nursed all through DD2's pregnancy (I got pregnant when she was 18 months and had DD2 when she was 27 months). No, it wasn't just the act of sucking...I kept my milk the entire time. I checked peridoically every couple weeks or so because I had read nothing but "your milk will dry up and if it doesn't you're the exception to the rule"

Mine did dry up when I was pg and DS was 18 months old, but I think it was partly because by that point he had started taking cups at daycare (of water, cow milk) so I could have a break from pumping. Then he started sleeping through the night instead of night nursing. So all that left was morning and evening nursing, and I don't think that was enough to keep things going once I was pregnant.

I would imagine that mamas who have not introduced cups etc., might have better luck.

In a way though, it wasn't as bad as I thought... it sort of felt like a "gentle" process because DS just sort of lost interest as the milk went away.

I nursed to 6 months and 5 months respectively. My milk didn't dry up at any point in time before that. I believe that if my DC would have kept nursing, the milk would have kept coming, without a break.

I don't think mine has dried up completely (I'm about 32 weeks pregnant now), but it does seem like a lot less. Doesn't stop my son from wanting to nurse at all though and he seems content with whatever does/doesn't come out.
