THey are all VERY VERY different. I think the best I've come across in terms of purity, grade, processing techniques and variety of ingredients are Natures First Food http://www.sunfood.com/nff.html ( www.rawfood.com ) and VitaMineral Green http://www.bestjuicers.com/vitamineral_green.html . Organic, raw, and actually quite yummy.

Jordan Rubin also has one called Perfect Food http://www.gardenoflife.com/detail_perfect.shtml which is okay. Good formulation but definitely tastes far...greener than the others.

the garden of life brand is definite very grassy - the perfect food berry version is the least grassy. i emailed the sunfood folks and got a sample of the nature's first food powder - not so grassy but still it is definitely an acquired taste. that said, the natures first food brand is super duper expensive.

Thanks for the replies. We already use the Vitamineral Green, but it is SO pricey. I was reading some of the info about other brands, and they all seem to say the same things in their "hype" pages. It started mking me think that perhaps some of the less expensive brands might be just as good. But maybe not, huh?

In terms of the hype-I personally think that it is a matter of people eating greens period. Most aren't used to getting that much nutrition-KWIM? You'd likely get the same results from just eating a pound or so a day. I always did the powders but stopped when I upped my consumption to two pounds of raw greens a day and I just rotate the greens. Much cheaper and I don't have to worry about placing the order!

ITA about the GOL brand-that was my warning-it is quite GREEN.

I noticed a real shift when I went to nature's first food...there is a difference for sure. I was using VMG before that. But, as I said, I since abandoned the everyday usage in favor of live greens.

Many of the brands use fillers, so even thought they appear cheaper you aren't getting concentrated nutrition. With things like this I always look for the highest quality if I'm going to buy them at all. The nutrients involved are damaged by heat and I want a reputable company who I know will go to great lengths to prevent me from consuming a useless product that simply allows them to line their pockets. Companies like those putting out VMG, NFF and PF are interested in health-not jumping on the bandwagon and cranking out powders because they see others making a profit.

Yes, I want to avoid the fillers! The whole point is to get good nutrition into my DS2, especially, and fillers are not part of the equation. If I could get DS2 to eat greens, I'd be so thrilled!!! Since I can't (or only a limited amount in smoothie popsicles), I feel that a greens powder is my next best option, and I want a quality product.

Though I have to say, 1-2 pounds of fresh, organic greens per day for each person in my family certainly wouldn't be any cheaper than the VMG! Not even at this time of year.

Again, thanks for the replies.
