is there still hope with these hcg levels?? UPDATED #10

UPDATED - POST # 10

In my first post on this DDC I stated my worries about the baby...since an early u/s showed the baby to only be 5w4d....and only saw a gest sac. We were thinking positive that my dates were just off, which is possible.

They did some hcg tests this past week. On Thurs 2/4 it was 11000 and on Mon 2/8 it was 16209.

midwife said that they are rising but they would have liked to see them at LEAST at 20000 on Monday.

They scheduled another sonogram for tomorrow (which should be 6w4d according to the last u/s). I am so nervous and trying to remain hopeful.

Any insight??

textbook would have had them doubling in that time... but not every woman's pregnancy is textbook. Keep hold of hope!

that is to say the belief is average doubling time of about 4 days as far along as you are...

but that is just average. Many many many women double faster than that... many many many women double slower. Its very possible to be a slow doubler and have a healthy pregnancy... as long as the hcg is still rising, that is the sign you want to see. If it went from 11000 to 5000 then I would be worried.
I have a good friend who's doc told her her hcg was not going up fast enough to signify a healthy pregnancy and told her that she would miscarry.

She was DEVASTATED and I put her in contact with my midwife who told her to ignore what she had heard and just think positively since her numbers DID increase. She left that practice and has a healthy beautiful 18mth old daughter.
Clearly not everyone is the same.
I would think positively and wait for more info.

This is my stance, yes if your HCG levels are not adequate, and say, the worst happens and you miscarry. Would you want to know your going to miscarry? Me, not at all. Even if I knew I would miscarry, it wouldn't help "prepare" for the miscarriage as I don't think you can truly prepare yourself. So is the stress of knowing the possibility worth it? To me know. Just wanted to you let you know a different take.

Much Love
I think I read somewhere that once hcg levels reach 10k they double MUCH less quickly. And there is a wide range of "normal" for levels. I really think you're going to learn more by u/s at this point than hcg levels.
I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you.

I don't know anything about HCG levels but I hope you get good news.
(There would be a "fingers crossed" emoticon here if I could find it.)

You just never know. Not everyone is textbook as the other ladies have mentioned. I , too, have a friend whose levels were not perfect. Her doc basically told her to have a D&C b/c it wasn't a viable pregnancy. As it turned out, she was carrying TWINS and ended up losing one twin, which is why her levels were off. No idea on what her actual numbers were, but just thought I'd mention that it is too early to lose hope completely.
Hi, just wanted to chime in that there is no reason to give up hope yet! I was convinced I was pregnant with my second DD and my then OB did the urine test, and then ordered the round of blood work, and all came back negative. They even did an US and said that I was definitely NOT pregnant and in fact had tons of cysts. They scheduled me for a D&C and the *day before the D&C* they did entrance bloodwork at the hospital, and the OB called me back and told me that they had to cancel the D&C because I was pregnant!
Turned out I had been right all along, so hang in there mama, I am sending positive vibes your way and hope your news is good

Ladies...thank you so so SO much ! Your responses have really helped me to have a positive day today ! I feel very hopeful. I am being realistic, but hopeful !

They have schedule another hcg check AND an ultrasound tomorrow. I guess the hcg check is probably unnecessary at this point, but it takes 5 minutes and I don't want to appear "uncooperative". I have my u/s in the afternoon, so we should know something after that.

Again, thank you to each and EVERY one of you who responded...just having an outpouring of support has helped me so much today!

I will update tomorrow.
Well, I went dutifully to my lab appt today....and then off to my u/s. The very first words she said were "there's the heartbeat" !!!! Precious words !

Thank you ladies for all of your support! What a wonderful day !

Oh, they also gave me an estimated due date of 10/4/10 !!
