When they talk about it "entering the food supply" do they mean it entering animals (and thus meat) through feed, or entering humans through grain products?

I get the impression that while it's thus far only been found in pet food that they are planning on testing grains/flours etc meant for human consumption also so I would think it would be a worry for humans who don't eat meat as well as those who do.

it should be a concern for nearly everyone, whole-foods-eating-vegans aside.

if one eats veggie-meats they often have gluten added. It isn't just the feed meals being added to animal foods (chickens and pigs in a couple states so far) that should worry the people. When "gluten" or other nebulous things are added to foods, there's generally no way of telling where they came from as the consumer.

Makes me VERY, VERY glad our family only uses whole foods (we buy whole grains and mill them ourselves) and is vegan! I was already worrying about the cats enough.

Interesting.

NatureMama3, how do you grind your own grain? I'm sorry, just so use to buying 5 lbs flour. Is the grinder like a coffee bean grinder? Do you use wheat berries, or what, and where do you purchase that? TIA

meowee thanks for the link. I too have been worried about the pets, but I should have been worried about the family!! :

We have 2 grain mills, one manual that does cracking and rolling (and can do flour with a bit of elbow grease) and an electric one that does flour quite nicely.

We got our present grain at Montana Wheat when we passed by in while moving, but you can order from there or from other places (such as Azure Standard if you're far enough west) and can buy in many health food stores too. Around here, even the Super Walmarts carry the Montana Wheat red/white berries.

Those who have vitamix machines can grind flour through them, and both bosch and kitchenaid have grain mill attachments that can be bought.
