says it harnesses to 47 lbs..
however when i google it i get this seat only harnessing to 40

whats the news on the cosco apex?

my daughter is starting to get tired of her "baby" seat , as she calls it .. (we have 2..an evenflo triumph.. love it.. in most used car.. & cosco alpha omega.. hate it.. about to go to the trash)
so i was thinking its time for a booster.. but want one that harnesses past 40, even though she may be 10 by the time she hits 40
shes only 29 lbs now. so im not in a huge hurry..
i do have to replace before febuary, when both seats will be 4 years old.. but would prefer to do before then.. since she wants a big girl seat

Ill be buying 4 (!!!) seats between now & then.. so um.. Britax seats will be a last resort :LOL

sorry if this is rambly.. its 2 am.. i need to go to bed

That's a typo, the manufacturers web site says to 40lbs. Sorry momma. I don't know anything about the Cosco Apex, but have you considered the Britax Husky? It's forward facing only seat that fits children in harness from 22 to 80 pounds and doesn't look as "babyish" as the Triumph (which are the seats we have and
). The only catch is that you can only use the latch system until 48 pounds, after that, you have to secure the seat into the car with the seat belt.

Quote:
Use vehicle seat belt (not LATCH connectors) for installations with children weighing more than 48 pounds (21 kg.). Refer to the vehicle's owner's manual for the maximum weight rating for their LATCH anchors. Unless specified otherwise by the vehicle manufacturer, assume a 48 pound child is the vehicle LATCH anchor limit.
I haven't used the husky, but have researched it a bit. My soon to be 5 year old had her physical today and weighed in at 30 3/4lbs, so we'll probably be in the Triumph until she's ready to drive herself around. :LOL The price tag on that Britax (or any Britax for that matter) make it hard for me to want to switch.

No it is not a typo. The Evenflo Generations booster is rated to 47 lbs harnessed IN CANADA ONLY. In the US the seat is rated only to 40 lbs. The reason is Canada has different testing and mandates top tethers and it is possible there might some minor differences, ie padding, between the two seats too.

The latest I have heard on the Apex is it will be shipping to BRU, TRU, Walmart (and other stores which I can't remember off hand) in the US in between one and three months.

As your DD is only 29 lbs you have plenty of time in a seat rated to 40 lbs. If you are in Canada the Evenflo combo boosters, like the Generations (which is a very nice seat) go to 47 lbs and the Graco ones, the Ultra and the Platinum, go to 48 lbs, so this would give you plenty of time. If you are in the US, I would still consider the Evenflo Generations or the Graco Cargo seats, they are very nice (much nicer than the Airway), they are both tall seats with nice high harness slots. The Generations is much better when used as a belt positioning booster (IMO).

I wouldn't even bother to try and find an Airway given your DD's size. It is isn't the easiest seat to install and use correctly.

The other day a neighbor wanted to take DD and I somewhere and I experienced a booster seat! Shes not big enough AT ALL! shes 30lbs! All the seats say 3yrs and 30lbs right? Shes 2 and a half! I really don't think at three she will be big enough! She weighs 29lbs! So we have a cosco alpha omega that is suppose to turn into a booster. I feel so insecure with her not having the harness! I'll be lurking to see if you find one that harness's for a while longer!

We have that Evenflo Generations booster for Lula. She's not a really large kid- almost 4 and 34 pounds, but she is tall so we like the high harness slots. I like it, but there are some negatives. The #1 problem is that the buckle part that's between the child's legs is really short. It just barely comes out of the seat, it seems like, and it's tight, way down there on Lula's crotch. Ouch. I know it can't go up high on her stomach, but this thing is ridiculously short. Also, the armrests are flimsy and one came off. Can't get it back on. The wings aren't very big and her head falls forward when she sleeps, instead of to the side on them. But I really love the harness release/tighten system. I love that she'll be harnessed in this booster for quite a while.

Why do you say that you have to replace your car seats because they will be 4 years old? I've read that they only have to be replaced after 6 years. On the NHTSA site, it says no older than 10 years, though I think that's a bit much. Is four years the triumph's manufacturer's suggested time frame or is it a new reccomendation I didn't know about? I'm mostly asking because if it's four years, my seat I think is older than that and I may need to check that.

I don't blame you for wanting the Alpha Omega gone for any reason, but the AO is good for 5 or 7 years, you will need to check on your particular seat to determine which.

thanks.. Ill check it out..if its got awhile Im gonna see if my Sil wants it.. her 4 year old is riding in one of those old lap thingy's.. its at least 10 years old & from what I understand the new ones arent even safe

Id given her an old car seat of mine & she used it untill her DD got too big.. then went to that.. she can at least use it as a booster.. her Daughter is almost 50 lbs
she the type who will just use whatever is given to her.. as long as it keeps her from getting another ticket..
but enough about her

I just hate the harness on it.. I have to take it completely off once a week & untwist it all & it dosent sit snug against her at all now

I think Ill see if toys r us has a graco car go I can try her in.. & get rid of the omega

Nikki Christina, I just clicked on the photos of your four year old and saw her car seat picture. She needs to be in a new seat now. The harness slots are below her shoulders so she has outgrown the AO by height. I assume you know the top harness slots can only be used when the AO is in booster mode, they are for the headrest only. This is one of the many annoying things about the AO.

I also see what you mean about the harness, it looks like a piece of rope. You can order a new, much less twisty one from Cosco, if you have any plans on keeping the seat.
