Is this safe to use? The warning says not to use during pg, but my MW's assistant recommended it and said it was okay and should clear it up with one suppository. http://www.taoofherbs.com/products/4...eastArrest.htm

Also, have you used Yeast Arrest? Did it work for you?

The background: I am 21 weeks pg right now. I have had a mild yeast infection for the last two weeks or so. I took the clotrimazole (gyne-lotrimin) 3-day dose and it helped significantly but has not totally cleared it up. I have told dh that he needs the cream too b/c every time we DTD it gets worse (we haven't been DTD very much since the YI -I won't let him!)

I rarely get yeast infections (I've had maybe 3-4 in my life). I eat plain yogurt on a regular basis, don't eat a lot of sugar and my diet it pretty good in general. I have tried the yogurt topically too. (messy!
)

Thanks, everyone!

This looks very interesting! The one I found similar to this product at my health food store contained gelatin, so I did not use it. This one seems to be vegetarian capsules. Let us know how it works, now I am very curious about this product!

I have heard that boric acid is a wonderful treatment for recurrent yeast infections. I've always considered it in my arsenal as a last resort treatment. I haven't had to fall back on it yet, though.

Everything I have read says that it can be toxic to a fetus and should NOT be used during pregnancy.

Google "boric acid pregnancy" and a lot of contraindication references come up.

Also, as someone who has suffered about 5 yeast infections during the course of this pregnancy, I have personally found the 3-dose treatment to be less effective than the 7-day treatment (cream, not suppositories). In fact, my midwives recommend doing the 7 day treatment two weeks in a row to get the flora balance fully back in line.

PLUS: I take probiotics daily; try to reduce simple carbs in diet

PLUS: Treat DH

PLUS: Once full course of treatment is complete, keep it dry, dry, dry down there. Clean up immediately after intercourse (I rinse with peri bottle) and gently blot dry. I have to take my bathing suit or workout clothes off IMMEDIATELY and dry off or the stupid infections recur. I can't even wear a DRY bathing suit around the house, because it doesn't breathe enough.

If postpartum hormones don't fix this problem for me, I am, BTW, going straight to the boric acid capsules!!

I did google it after reading the contraindications. It sounded serious. It made me wonder why the MW assistant would recommend it. Maybe I should just call and see what the MW says...

What is the best way to treat dh? I told him he needed it since it started almost immediately after we DTD. (Harumph!) Do I just have him slather on the cream before bedtime?? Any advice would be appreciated!

I do keep it dry down there. I wear all-cotton panties and change them *at least* once a day if not more.

Laura, my DH had an inflamed yeast-y spot that we treated specifically with the cream, both morning and evening. That's the only time we've found treating him necessary (now we avoid intercourse as soon as I feel that tell-tale itch/irritation, the recurrence of which is usually traceable to me being lazy about cleanup after intercourse <sigh>).

If your DH doesn't have yeast symptoms (for my DH, it wasn't itching, but an irritated and inflamed patch that caused discomfort for him during sex), he's probably not carrying it. If you're super paranoid about him retransmitting it to you, though, you might want to consider talking to his HCP about getting a culture done to check. I would guess either slathering on the cream would be effective, or maybe even a diflucan rx....

HTH!
