So I just searched for the word "anus" on this forum
.

DD will be one next week and is eating anything she can chew and swallow. She is happy child, breastfeeds often and sleeps pretty well. Her anus is cracked and bloody and she has a lesion on one of her butt cheeks that just won't heal. It reopens and bleeds every once in while and looks like raw open skin.

Is this the red ring around the anus that is a sign of food allergies? If so, what is my next step?

That sounds similar to how DD's looked- she didn't have so much of a ring, more like spots around her anus that were raw and wouldn't heal no matter what we tried.

Dairy is the #1 allergen, so you could try cutting dairy 100% (watch for hidden ingredients!) for a couple weeks from both of your diets and see if that helps. (I would also cut soy at the same time if you eat it, as those allergies seem to go together.)

I would also start a food journal so that you can try and watch for patterns of when it appears, compared to what was eaten recently.

The last time this happened I had just added Cheerios to her regular diet. At the suggestion of a friend I eliminated the Cheerios and it cleared up. I just re-introduced Cheerios and she's been eating a handful everyday for a week. Think there is a connection???

Two more quick thoughts - I've been giving her canned peas which Dr. Sears says is highly allergenic. She's also been eating a lot of sliced hard cheese). She's been sharing my plain yogurt with me for months with no reaction (I think).

I looked more carefully at her bottom after her bath today. The rash is not the anus itself, its on the cheek but close to it. It looks like tiny open sores similar to the big one that she has on her butt cheek. I haven't been doing anything to treat it except use only plain water to clean it and wiping very gently in that area.
