My dd has a white coated tongue, and some small white patches on the inside of her cheeks, which don't rub off. But, that's the only symptom we have.. it's not painful for me to nurse, she doesn't have thrush anywhere else (diaper rash or whatever)... all we have is this white mouth! is this thrush, or something else? if it is, i'd like to handle it now, in case it gets worse/painful to nurse. ideas?

it sure sounds like thrush - you can schedule an appt with the ped to confirm the diagnosis. Are your nipples red? Even tho you are not showing visiable signs, you probably are carrying. If you do not address treatment for both of you, you will likely pass it back and forth.

There are several ways of treating - genetian violet (OTC), grapefruit seed extract (OTC) or Nystatin (script).

Make sure you wash anything that comes into contact with dd mouth - toys, burpies - in hot water. You might also consider adding vinegar to your rinse cycle.

There are several posts on thrush - if you do a search you'll also find some links to kellymom, bf.com and bfonline.com

What your child had was definitely thrush. I hope you've been able to clear it up by now. Both of my children had thrush repeatedly. With my son, the dr prescribed Nystatin which is useless. I had to give it to him multiple times a day for many days, and of course the thrush just comes right back. I switched drs by the time my daughter came and she said to use Gentian Violet. IT'S AMAZING!! One application and the thrush is gone. It's worth the staining and the challenge of finding a store that carries it. Good luck.

Yup, DEFINATELY thrush. D'ya know what tho? If it's not bothering you or your babe, there's really no need to treat it. GASP! I know!
At the end of my yeast oddesy with ds, I just let it alone )during the last episode). I was never bothered by it and when ds's immune system got strong enough to deal, (it was never really painful for him) it went away. I'd take some probiotics if I were you, and put some on your nipples so your babe gets some, but as long as it isn't bothering evither one of you, it's okay to let it be. If it does start becoming painful for y'all, you will need to take the ladie's good suggestions.
