It has become overwhelming for todzwife & myself. I am getting 7-10 requests a week to be added to the list. (They are getting more, exacting as to what they want too.) And only 1-2 a week requesting names.<br><br>

Well here's what I've done in the past few minutes with the HTML wizard on Yahoo just to see if it would be super tough to manage. Keep in mind, this was only done with the Quick Wizard because I'm not sure if you'd give me the job. It will need a lot more HTML than that. Plus the other hidden list will need to be password protected, so you will have to own your own domain to do that. But you can help pass out names though.

Okay, I can be a name hander outter then. Sounds more like java on the password protected web page. Can't the person just have the names of their computer and do it that way? Do the addresses <i>have</i> to be hosted on a website? I'd be worried about hackers or something.<br><br>

That would be a lot harder to do. It is easier to update a web page, than email HUGE lists out every week. The list of names is 60kb. Not many people can handle a list that large weekly. The list is as safe on a password protected site as emailing it. Email can be intercepted very easy.

Just a thought, what about a locked yahoo group? (not listed in the yahoo directory so no one could "search it out", members must be approved by moderator so the helpers would be approved and that would be all the members, the members would have the access to post the new additions to the list, and all of this is locked from public eye unless you are a member.) Any archived messages would only be veiwable to members, and any updated addresses and names could be emailed weekly and just those names are emailed so you don't have to page through all the other ones. And the title of the individual posts of people on the fairy list can be their MDC usernames so it'd be easy to look up.<br><br>
I dunno. Just trying to help. I dunno how many mom's on here would be willing to take on such a task, much less HTML when most mom's around here have more than one kid.<br><br>
This may not be the idea you had for Diaper Fairy but if no one else can take it over and mess around with web hosting and HTML, this might be a safe alternative on the addresses anyway. I have my own domain Jen. I shell out through the nose for it, I have a ton of space, multiple email accounts availble, everything. I used to use it for business stuff when I lived in Japan.<br><br>

Back in May we (those actively involved in the Fairy lists) discussed the lists existing as an MDC sponsored community project. That included some necessary guidelines that the lists need to adhere to for MDC to be a sponsor. I also suggested that MDC place an html page for the Fairy Lists with the volunteers overseeing them. We decided to keep them on the sites they were hosted on as they were not on commercial websites.<br><br>
I see that at some point that changed. And now discussion has arisen to make another location change.<br><br>
If this is going to be an MDC fairy list then we do need to keep it here at MDC and not on someone else's site or through a Yahoo group. We can place an html page. Or it can be hosted entirely here on the forum.<br><br>
And I probably need to meet and discuss with anyone that takes over the position of overseeing the running of the lists so that MDC policies are clearly understood and so that I remain in the loop of any concerns or needs.<br><br>

It can be hosted on a commercial site & not link to the original site. It would be much better for you to host it & staff it. Didn't think you were willing to do that. The turn over rate for people in charge will be high, as people get worn out by it. It is a demanding job. It will also be an increase in storage & bandwidth which is always a complaint here.<br><br>
Ever since it moved here it slowed down. Not as many people want to check here. It is like being in a 30 story building & having to walk up 25 flights for the diaper moms, lol. It is too many clicks away & they forget it is here.<br><br>
I feel the purpose for the list has been corrupted. The requests for diapers are getting greedy. "I want only wool". Or "Organic only". There are 5 times more requests to be added to the list than requests for info. I think that is part of what turned the original gals off & us too. That & it is a demanding job.

I understand that there are rules in order for MDC to be sponsoring it, but with all this talk lately in Q&S Forum about how bandwith is always an issue, it costing and such, and Diaper Fairy is not something that anyone pays to join or anything, I don't see why having it on another free webpage hosting site would be a problem. It would be saving bandwith here. As Jen said, only one or two people a week may opt to fairy someone as opposed to seven or ten that want to be added to that list per week, thus increasing bandwith over time.<br><br>
Couldn't it still be the MDC Diaper Fairy List even if it was on a freesite like geocites or even a WAHM's server?<br><br>
The only reason that I suggested Geocities is because I don't have a server that I pay, but I figured that since the Diaper Fairy was a RAOK thing, it could be hosted on a free server.<br><br>
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that the rules of the Diaper Fairy and info on how to be added to the list have not been here on MDC that I could ever find. They were always (since I've known about it) on Jen's wahm server thing. And I don't see a difference moving it all over to a free server.<br><br>
I understand there are rules though too.<br><br>
I just thought that by offering my ideas something could be worked out because Jen did say that it's getting to be too much for her and Todzwife and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have an opportunity to do this. No, I don't know HTML too fluently, but the free sites do offer LOTS of html help. I'm sure I could also make a "site" there and copy all the html over to the MDC server to if it HAS to be on the MDC server.<br><br>

The problem with free sites is you can't lock the database. That is very important.
