Well, we just took the plunge and bought our little log cabin/mini farm in VT... it's a dream come true for us! Now we're on the hunt for other homeschooling families in the Rutland area (and anywhere within a hour drive really, we're used to rural living and having to drive for good company!) Anyone out there wanna hang with the new kids?

Hi!
Where do you live?
How old are your kids?
There's a great homeschooling coop/resource center in Chester,
which isn't tooo bad a drive if you're to the south of Rutland:
http://www.thejourneyschool.com/

Have you joined the home schoolers' Yahoo group yet?
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vthomeschoolers/

I just got this from them:

Wednesday, May 26th. 11:00 till whenever!
Wallingford Rec park, Wallingford, VT (just off of route 7)

Bring your whites! Pack a picnic lunch for your family, bikes, scooters, tennis rackets, side walk chalk, fishing poles, bathing suits, towels, balls and more!

I will bring the tie-dye, and some rubber bands, but if others have them to bring please do!

I have been contacted by many area families with older kiddo's( 10-15) who are looking to meet others their age, so please bring your older family members too! There is also a lot of 5-8 year olds, and I notice the age gap is lessening as their abilities are maturing......

There are tennis courts, a playground, basket ball courts, mini skate park, ball fields, and a newly constructed bridge across the river with a path that leads to Elfin Lake.... so maybe folks will want to meander that way to swim, explore or play on the playground there....

Anyone with ideas for field games bring 'em along... Capture the flag is always fun.....

PLEASE RSVP TO THE BOARD IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO COME! FOLKS SEEM MORE WILLING TO VENTURE OUT WHEN THEY ARE SURE OTHERS ARE COMING! ALSO SPREAD THE WORD TO OTHER HOMESCHOOLERS YOU KNOW, OR FEEL FREE TO COPY/PASTE THIS TO ANOTHER GROUP/BOARD!

Welcome

that would be great! how are you liking brattleboro so far? it seems like a cool town. we are most likely going to the event that ramlita posted above, and that is probably somewhere in the "half-way" range I'm thinking... maybe that would be a good place to meet?

hi! i'm in castleton... i "technically" hs ds1 (he goes to public school for a couple hours in morning and we do most of his schooling at home) there are quite a few hs families around, but sort of spread out. i haven't been to the wallingford group but i know many of the families--might be worth the drive to meet some of them.

there are some families in poultney and pawlet that we try and see often. that's not too far from orwell.

funny, we just visited that farm yesterday... you're right, it's absolutely gorgeous! we had fun picking out some starts and we're getting them into the ground today woohoo! once we get the garden going, we will definately check you guys out, probably sometime next week... I think we are all in need of some social interaction outside of our little family, lol!

What's this you mentioned about a Wallingford group? I have been checking in on the vt hs yahoo group, but it's not as active as I'd hoped. may be just that time of year though.

Thanks so much for touching base mama

I'm so glad I decided to pop into this thread. We live in Wallingford and we are part of the homeschooling group here but we've been hoping to find some 5 or 6 year old girls for our daughter to meet up with since the group doesn't have any! Our daughter will be 6 in a few weeks.

If you're interested, we could meet here at the park in Wallingford. It's only a few minutes walk to the lake. The group meets sporadically in the summer because everyone is so busy but if you let me know you're coming, we'll make a point to meet you

I'll PM you as soon as I don't have a hungry 2 y/o squirming in my lap.
