Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that Hezbollah has "hoisted the banner of victory" over Israel and toppled U.S.-led plans for the Middle East. Hezbollah's main backers _ Iran and Syria _ struck nearly identical tones a day after a cease-fire took effect in Lebanon: heaping praise on the guerrillas as perceived victors for the Islamic world and claiming that Western influence in the region was dealt a serious blow.

"God's promises have come true," Ahmadinejad told a huge crowd in Arbadil in northwestern Iran. "On one side, it's corrupt powers of the criminal U.S. and Britain and the Zionists ... with modern bombs and planes. And on the other side is a group of pious youth relying on God."
So exactly how did they win?

A cease fire doesn't declare a winner, but what do you expect from someone that appears to be delusional?
From where I am sitting it doesn't look like anybody won. I know a whole lot of people who lost though...

Just like Israel did. No offense, but anyone who says either side won is delusional at best. We've obviously just moved on to the propoganda war.

What ever happened to that guy?

On a serious note, the perception that Hezbollah won is widespread in the Arab world, too. The thinking is that Israel was not able to destroy Hezbollah despite its military superiority, and was not able to accomplish any of its stated goals, and that in itself is a victory.

I agree with yonit... a whole lot of people lost.

there are no winners in war. Only losers.

I suppose if Israel was entirely defeated, I wouldn't be here now, nor would my friends be back home in Haifa, Tzfat, Carmiel, etc.

The talk around here is that while no one is in favor of war, not fighting it to the end or to the best of our abilities, only means that the threat of future war increases. Kind of like just eliminating one head of a hydra, when you know that now 7 more will grow in its place.

This war was expensive, and apparently budget cuts will drastically affect schools and other social programs. So no one is dancing in the streets or anything.

Maybe Nasrallah can sell it to his people. but I wouldn't buy it. No way.
he is deranged. and its not over. unfortunately. and there are many many losers in this battle.

its just such a sad state of affairs. i do hope Israeli schools don't suffer badly due to this war and the budget cuts.
