Oh my gosh, you guys! I'm typing this from my HOUSE! (Thank you, iPhone!)

The movers called to confirm that they will be at DF's apartment on the UWS in about fifteen-twenty minutes or so (his best friend is there to supervise), then they'll come over to my apartment (six blocks away from me right now, where DF is), and finally come to where I am right now (my HOUSE!) to unload the truck.

Ah! I've been waiting for this day forever, so I'm pretty much bouncing up and down right now. I even just threw up here for the first time. Ah, pregnancy milestones.

Don't worry. As soon as the couch is in I'm plopping my butt down and shouting directions up the stairs!

I have a four friends who have jobs to oversee a certain floor (four floors plus basement, baby!). I've got the entry/garden level, Gabe's got the second (every girl needs a gay best friend - it's absolutely crucial), Beth's got the third, Joy's got the fourth, and Ghita's got the basement.

It's DF's job to run interference between the all the floors and get me snacks whenever I ask.

Tomorrow about two dozen of our friends are coming over to help unpack. They will also be bringing takeout. My friends are the greatest.

But, tonight, I totally plan on laying down in my backyard (eee!) and staring at the sky, counting all the (dozens) of stars in the Brooklyn sky.

Thanks!

I've got about a twenty different checklists floating around and everyone has their instructions (I've been planning this move since January, which for someone as Type-A as me is way too long).

The 'must be in control' thing comes from my Mom - the last time we moved when I was a teenager she measured all of our furniture and the new house, filled black plastic trash bags with crumpled up newspaper, labeled the bags, and put them wherever that particular piece of furniture was supposed to go. All the movers had to do was move the bags out of the way and put the sofa/dresser/whatever in their place.

I aspire to that kind of obsession myself someday.

Brooklyn is awesome! I highly suggest making the move, and if you do I hope it goes as smoothly as possible.

I'm well aware of how lucky I am and I don't for a second take it for granted. I know how differently things could be. I'm pretty much living my dream life right now. Once the baby gets here, things will be as near to perfect as is possible.

You are totally together. When we moved last year, I was still throwing crap in boxes as the movers were taking it out of the house. I do not do well moving. We're renovating in July and it is my biggest nightmare to think about packing up the kitchen and rest of the house.

Enjoy your new place, sounds heavenly! Seems like you'll get a lot of exercise with all those stairs!

I've been together for a while, yes, which is a good thing because DF was totally not. Hardly anything that he was supposed to do was done, so I ended up spending most of my time this past week packing his apartment instead of very methodically moving my things into the correct order for the movers to place the boxes in the truck (top floor first, basement last - to be considerate, you see). It's a good thing he's cute.

It is heavenly! I've spent the last five-and-a-half months overseeing (and periodically changing my mind about certain things) the renovations. The painting/wallpapering was done as of Thursday, and all the appliances are in, minus the extra freezer for the basement (the one we picked is on backorder, should get here in a couple of weeks).

My favorite part is the room that's going to be the nursery. It has this wallpaper on the ceiling, but the colors are inverted - instead of white stars on a black background, it has black stars on a white background. I desparately want one of these mobiles to go with it. I keep hinting around to DF, but so far it's not getting through. Like I said, at least he's cute.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how my cat takes the move, most of all. He does not like change, at all - tends to take it very personally and ignores me for weeks at a time, but he's a fan of the outdoors and he's going to have a backyard now so it's possible he may forgive me sooner rather than later.

The movers are on their way! They should be here in just a few minutes, so I'll be pretty busy for a while, but I'm sure I'll be able to sneak a few iPhone updates in here or there.

I'll try and see what I can do, but my very (insanely) security conscious DF gets upset when I use email to give old friends my cell phone number, so it might be battle. It can be a little annoying sometimes, but I know he's just trying to protect me - he's one of those rare guys who walks closest to the curb on the sidewalk, opens doors, pulls out my chair. I'm a very lucky girl, know.

I'll try and sneak some past him, if I can.

My butt is now planted firmly on the sofa, where I plan on staying today except for (probably frequent) trips to bathroom, just steps away.

Already weathered our first "crisis," so to speak. My cat got loose and made it halfway down the sidewalk before DF caught up to him, so he's been banished to the laundry room for now.

Let's do this.

We just moved in March, NOT fun with 4 kids and 5 pets (3 cats, 80lb golden retriever, 100lb great dane), but I was not pregnant.... We then had to caravan in two cars from Colorado the Washington state. I got stuck with ALL the pets and the two youngest kids, who got screwed on THAT one?! However, I would do that move all over again before I would move while pregnant! You are a brave brave girl.

Congratulations on the new digs, the house sounds fabulous. Glad Baxter was brought home safe and sound!

DH and I compromised with house pics if I posted no pics of the outside of the front of the house. I could post the pics of the back of the house because it could not be seen from the street. And absolutly NOTHING with house numbers, street signs, or names of super close milestones.

We are just renting here in Olympia because we could not get what we owed from our Colorado home yet and I am not interested in dual home-ownership. I am REALLY hoping this does not come back and bite us in the rear in a year when our lease is up, because I do not want to have to move and our CO tenants signed a 2-year lease so we cannot sell until April 2012.

Okay, so it's almost two in the morning here, but I just woke up from my backyard nap. People, I have literally been sleeping under the stars (and smog)!

NY being as it is, DF is out picking up pancakes at the diner a couple of blocks away, so I thought I'd let you know a little bit about how today went.

By far, the most stressful thing that happened today was when Baxter managed to get out of the laundry room and we were unable to find him for nearly thirty minutes. Old guy got the scolding of his life and put was into his carrier, which he hates with a passion, so I spent the next four hours with him snarling at me through the mesh window. Fun times for all, I can assure you.

When I finally let him out then opened the side door in the kitchen and he saw the grass (two story walls surround three sides and the length of the house takes care of the other - he's not getting out of there)? He burst out of there like he was on fire. When I followed, he backed up like he thought he was going to be in trouble. You should have seen his face when I just sat down about a yard away from him and held out a treat. Truly priceless. He napped with us. This might be my favorite day ever. I never thought I'd say that about moving.

All the furniture is in place - the furniture we have, that is. I think getting enough stuff to fill this place is going to be the real problem - it's mammoth! I'm beginning to wonder what in the world I was thinking!

My have-a-friend-on-each-floor strategy worked out wonderfully. Joy turned out to have it the easiest because hardly anything other than all my books made it to the fourth floor. Beth went ahead and unpacked all the boxes with my clothes in them (no easy feat - I'm a vintage whore) and hung or folded everything. But Gabe deemed her system for doing so unsatisfactory (he's a stylist/aspiring fashion designer) and did it all over again himself.

Our bed is completely made, so after we eat I'm going to go take a shower, change into one of the many white undershirts I've stolen from DF, and marvel at the beauty that is surrounding me right now. I know eventually the novelty will wear off and it'll just become 'home,' but for right now I'm just going to soak it all in. It's kind of got that new house smell to it, ya know?

Oh, and yes - I can totally see how the stairs could end up making me crazy (four floors? What were we thinking?), but I can also tell that they will completely cut down on any chance of me falling into the 'supplementing' trap after the baby is born (not that there was any chance of that anyway). No way am I running down and then back up two flights of stairs every time the kid gets hungry. Nuh-uh. Also, I think my arms will be getting quite the workout along with my legs - carrying a cat, then I'm sure a cat AND a baby up and down them all the time. Resistance training!

Okay, the food is here. Time for me to go. Bacon (bad Jew! Bad!) awaits me. I'll need all the sustenance I can get for tomorrow, we unpack!

Pray for me.

I just grinned when I saw that you had posted to this thread!

I can't explain how amazing it is that DF and I finally really live together. We've been together for over three years and haven't really spent any nights apart in that time unless one of us has been traveling so we already know all the quirks and everything, but it's a whole different feeling to know that his coffee mugs are sitting on the kitchen counter next to mine. It's awesome.

You're beating me to the marriage thing, so I can't wait to hear how your wedding goes! I know it's going to be beautiful based on everything you've told me so far and I'll pray for the weather you're hoping for.

Our friends are going to be here in about an hour to commence with The Great Unpacking. I think I'm going to head up to the fourth floor and organize all my books (by genre, then alphabetically by author) so they can be put into the bookshelves that we had built during the renovations (my very own library, I just can't get over it). My best friend Matt will be in charge of putting them all up in the order I tell him to (he's a giant - 6' 4").

Yes, alphabetizing and Italian food - two of my favorite things in the world.

I'm starting to feel kind of guilty because I know how much most people dread moving, but yesterday was beyond awesome (short of the cat escapes) and today is shaping up to be great as well - we went back to sleep for a little while after the pancakes - this time in bed, not outside , when we woke up DF made toast with raspberry jam (my favorite) and jasmine tea and we ate and drank it outside while watching Baxter try and catch a butterfly that somehow ended up back there.

I swear, it's been like something out of a Wallace Stevens poem. I'm kind of afraid to jinx it.
