Has anyone become pregnant with an IUD? I think I may be sperminated and I have the copper IUD. AF is supposed to be here this coming week so I will test then. I wasted four tests before I realized I am nowhere near "test time". I feel pregnant and have for the last couple of weeks. I have been pg three times and this is how I felt.....cramps and most recently the sore ta-tas. Oh, man!!!!!!!

I've heard of it happening. It's a fear of mine, mainly because I'd be so devastated if I lost the baby due to the IUD. You can ovulate with an IUD in, so you could definitely get pregnant.

I know you can absolutely become pregnant with a copper IUD. The IUD just makes the uterus unhospitable and therefore you m/c. However, the stats are low of an actual emplanted conception for a positive pregnancy test. Usually, the m/c takes place ultra early and you never know. Which I thought was fine by me, but now I'm not so sure.
My doctor strongly suggested that I chart my cycles and refrain from sex during my uber fertile times......unfortunately, that's when I want to have sex the most!!
I guess I'm still okay knowing that I may or may not be m/c a possible bebe if it happens very early (well.....it is kinda creepy!!) but I really don't want to m/c a known pregnancy BECAUSE of the IUD....heart breaking.

Usually the way the copper IUD prevents pregnancy is that it acts as a spermicide. If an egg does manage to get fertilized, it does not implant, due to the inhospitable lining of the uterus. If the egg does not implant, you don't produce Hcg, which is what gives you preganncy symptoms and a positive test. So if you are experiencing pregnancy symptoms and get a positive test, that is the pretty unusual egg that did implant. There is a risk of miscarriage if you have the IUD removed, but there is also the chance to carry to full-term. I suggest taking a test asap and calling your care provider if it is positive.
