Dd was nursing last night and she bit me. Hard. She is almost 6 mo and she was pretty much sleeping at the time this happened, but I'm in a lot of pain today. I looked at my nipple and skin has been broken. It is sooooo painful to nurse on that side. I've been trying to nurse on that side but it really hurts. I have a few questions, how can I make sure that it doesn't get infected and how do I deal with the pain of nursing on that side? Also, what do I do if she bites me again? Do I say "no" or what? I've had people tell me that I should pull her hair or something but I WILL NOT do that!!!! What do you do in those situations?

I was just reading the BFing section of Dr. Sears' The Baby Book. He says that if the baby bites, to pull her more towards you. As counter-intuitive as it is, he says that it will make it a bit harder to breathe, and cause the baby to open her mouth wider -- the opposite of biting.
