I've created a monster!

A laundry monster, that is
.
I cancelled my diaper service this week where I was getting 90 from them & using my own for the rest. I figure I was using about 15 dipes a day. Well, the last few days while I thought I was being more diligent about taking him (since I have to wash them all now), I've still only been catching 5-6 pees a day (I did catch the poo the last two days, though
). I have had to wash almost all my 2 dozen diapers every day to keep up
!! Last night he woke up twice with his diaper soaked & when I took him to the potty he had a huge pee each time.
When will he stop peeing so much

Like Pam_and_Abigail, I have considered quitting many times, but I just feel so bad when I think he has to go & I don't take him or take him too late. I apologize every time

hmm...
i can't remember who said it but it is so true:
"once your consciousness has been raised, it can't be lowered"

to clarify a previous post in the ec diaper stash thread...

i have 2 doz chinese prefolds, 1 doz velcro fitteds, 1 doz liners (and dh just got another 6) and 3 covers that currently fit. i prefer the fitteds for ease of ec'ing, and use the cpf's when i run out or when we're out and about. we cheat and use sposies at night (we usually need only 1 or 2), so that saves several cd's a day.

on a bad ec day, we still catch almost all the waking up pees and all the poo (ds really makes an unmistakeable fuss when he has to poop) except when he's in the car seat
:

we usually do 1 or 2 loads of laundry a day, but we wash dipes with everything else and don't bother sorting darks and lights (except for new dark clothes). so there's almost always enough to do a load! dh will often put a load in before leaving for work, and i transfer to the dryer, so if i'm running low on dipes, i know there's some down in the dryer.

helen, it sounds like another dozen dipes would probably help your sanity! I got my fitteds at a second hand store and they were $10 / 6, so you could try that. I'm also in the process of making some EC pants (basically velcro fitteds) that fit up to 20lbs - i got the pattern from granolababy. they're pretty easy, but it still takes time. Marnie from the yahoo EC list is mailing me her pattern for "one-wet pants" and i'm gonna try a few of those too.

when i get stressed out about ec'ing i just promise myself that i'll just change dh as soon as he gets wet and give myself some slack.

Too true!

Actually, I do have another dozen fitted dipes - brand new, never used. I was hoping not to have to use them so I can resell them for big bucks! (Got them 2nd hand in the first place
) I was thinking I wouldn't need a lot for very long.
I think it's just the inconsistency (his & mine) that's bothering me as much as anything. Sometimes he gives no indication, but is wet when I check him (or feel it when coverless); sometimes he starts (nak) screaming the second he's wet. Sometimes he starts fussing for no apparent reason so I take him & he doesn't go, then sometimes goes right after. Sometimes he is fussing/crying when I can't get to him right away & he's wet by the time I get there, so I don't know which came first. occasionally he fusses, I take him to the potty & he pees, but that is rare. Then there's the inevitable, I think he has to go, but I'm in the middle of a conversation or something & sure enough he goes before I take him
. He often lies & plays quietly when he wakes up, so by the time the crying starts & I go to get him up he's already wet.

I'm trying to do that, but it's still frustrating. I feel like that's all I'm thinking about all day

I started at birth and dd is 8wks now. I have 72 cd's and I, too, thought that would be more than enough. But when I got them in the mail, they were so thin that I had to use 2 at a time. I had to wash every day to have enough. She never wears the diapers, she sits on them. She would wet and I would change it and turn around and it seemed like every 10min. she was wet again. Then it dawned on me to set a timer for 10min. When it went off, I peed her. After a week of that, I started to noticed that if I suddenly thought "How long has it been?" then that was my intuition telling me to pee her. Of course I figured this out by ignoring this message and finding her wet before the timer went off. If she is in my arms, then I would set the timer for 15min b/c she could hold it longer if I was holding her. That is just what she natural did, so I went with it.

My dh got sick of hearing the timer go off (every 10min would get annoying, I suppose), but it kept me sane. I could relax for a couple minutes and not be constantly poking my child's seat to see if she was wet yet.

But, I still do more laundry then I thought I would! But it is becoming less. I could probably go 3-4 days now w/o having a lack of cd's emergency.
