I heard some rustling down on the floor the other day and DD was happily stuffing her mouth with shreds of the Menard's ad...

Then, later in the day, she was happily devouring something! It was the ONE piece of the Menard's ad that I thought I'd picked up and thrown away! But no, she'd found it and thought it was mighty tasty. Had to fish out a spitball from the back of her mouth. The remaining Menard's ad found its way to the trash.

DS still eats paper on occasion, but one day when we were shopping and he was about 9 months old, he wanted my grocery list, and I'd turned my back for 2 seconds and he had half of it gone!

I used to eat paper too when I was a kid. :

That is too funny. DS ate part of a brown paper bag once and the other day I had to chase down the mail guy for a package he didn't deliver and I had a letter in my hand, the package AND the baby and couldn't keep track so when we got back home, part of the letter was missing. I got it out of his mouth though and swore to be more careful about it.

Yeah, my DS loves to suck/chew on paper too. I don't get it... but if theres any sort of paper within reachof him, he'll find it and stick it in his mouth in no time! I wonder what it is about paper that babies seem to like so much?? (Aside from the obvious part about it being somethign that there NOT supposed to eat of coures!!

Maybe they need more fiber?

Our DD loves paper - but only seems to get ahold of cardboard. She doesn't seem to bothered by the substitute and gnaws away happily until we notice what she has gotten her hands on. (moments after) Today for instance she was playing on the floor while I was finishing getting supper in the oven and managed to tear a slice of book spine off of an old text book. Strong little sucker.

We've got a paper eater too! She recently discovered that the printer tray holds lots of paper... and was sampling each page to see if they all tasted the same... thank goodness she hasn't discovered our shredder!

My ds loves paper, too...I got a book with the crinkle pages to try to recreate the same crinkle effect -- but it must be the texture as well because although he does like the fake book, it isn't nearly as intriguing

I found two clumps of paper in my dd's poo awhile back. I was pretty shocked when it was solid poo since she hadn't been taking to solids so I investigated and discovered it was paper. So then we made sure to clean the floor really really well. soon we found more pieces of paper on the floor and couldn't find where it was coming from. She apparently has a treasure trove of hidden paper somewhere

Paper lover here too. I don't know what it is, but if there's a shred of paper anywhere on the floor, she zooms in on it like a hawk. And with her pincer grasp well developed, she can pick up some of the tiniest pieces.

Hahaha! Dd is a huge paper eater too. Even the teeny tiniest speck of it. She loves magazines as well.

I don't get it.

She also likes to eat small bark pieces from one of my plants.

And dirt.

This is just today . . . DD managed to find a receipt, a catalog, a magazine, and a cardboard shoe box to chew on. I'm at fault because I'll often look at a magazine or today, a receipt while sitting with her on the floor and as I had to take her to the potty, answer the phone, etc, they got left there and later were found by DD. Yesterday at the pediatrician's office, the doctor was fascinated by DD's love of paper.

My dd is absolutely obsessed with eating paper. She is 12 months and not getting any better. The cat and her work together - he scratches up cardboard boxes and she eats the shreds. I have to admit that I occassionally give her a little cardboard to nibble if I need to distract her.

I'm guilty of giving DS paper to chew on in the carseat if he's screaming.

My mom would get old phone books for me to play with when I was a little one. She called it paper practice. Letting me learn how to handle paper and a nonfrustrating item for her.

My DD was a paper-eater too! She'll still eat stickers. Now my baby niece is taking up paper-eating to carry on the tradition.

My little guy has been eating paper since about 4 months (he crawled at 3.5 months, so no I wasn't giving it to him!) We're still learning to put all paper up high (esp. since now he is cruising furniture and we've lost all our "hiding" spots.)

Both of mine love/loved paper. Never known a babe that didn't.

I would suggest plain paper though. The stuff that comes off a printing press (newspaper, magazine....) has a horrid amount of chemicals in the printing ink. I'm pretty casual about stuff - I let DD play with sand, dirt, plain paper.... knowing she will eat some, but I really try to prevent her from getting the newspaper because of the amount of printing ink.

Paper eater here, too! DS can't get enough of its crinkly inky goodness! I even have a whole photo album dedicated to it:

http://picasaweb.google.com/hklinefe...PaperWithDaddy
