i got my blood pressure taken today by my osteopath, because i was telling him about how i'd had thyroiditis diagnosed and that i still get low blood sugar problems sometimes (low blood sugar has improved lots since being grain free and tf but not entirely gone).
he said that my blood pressure was 105 over 65 - i dont' really know what that means but he said that was low. he said that no with that as it is no wonder i still had low blood sugar problems. anyway i was just wondering what this actually means? is it connected to adrenal problems? thyroid? could this by why i'm still feeling so tired and drained? and what should i do or take for it? the osteopath recomended me to take hawthorn but i don't know if that is good or if its ok while nursing, anyone else have low blood pressure and what do you do for it? thanks.

That's not really that low. Its okay. 70/40 is low.

Do you get lightheaded/dizzy/see spots when moving from sitting to standing? If you do have that effect, you might consider treating it if you want... but its still not really that worrisome.

Real licorice can help quite a bit, as can real licorice tea. Do not take deglycerated licorice (not sure about the spelling there) supplements as it has the blood-pressure raising benefits removed.

Sometimes its related to adrenals and hypoglycemia. In which case, treat adrenals and the resulting hypoglycemia with small, frequent meals high in protein and complex carbs.

It can also be related to low iron/low red blood cells. What is your pulse rate like? Is it pretty fast when just standing, not exercising, like over 110? If so, consider having iron/red blood cells checked.

Mine was that low for a long time, I didn't realize that my adrenals were slowly getting worse and worse until I hit a wall. So I think it's a good idea to ask questions and look to see if it's an early indicator of more serious problems to come. Next time you go in, see if they'll check your BP after you've been lying down for 5 mins or so and then immediately after you stand up (like, don't take off the BP cuff, stand up and they immediately check). Your BP is supposed to rise, I forget how much, but if it stays the same or drops, your adrenals are fatigued. There's an easier way to figure it out at home, it has to do with your eyes dilating--going from relatively dark to light (like a flashlight, so you can be at a mirror), they should contract and stay contracted for at least 30 seconds? Look elsewhere for details, but that's another way to look at adrenals, besides reading The Adrenal Fatigue thread and seeing if anything fits.

thanks for the replies. tanyalopez - what do you mean by more serious problems to come? - do you mean problems for my adrenals - or something else? just panicking slightly at what else i can expect to go wrong with my body if this low blood pressure is a warning sign - a sign of what?!
thanks.

I have low blood pressure, I think I always have. It gets really low when pregnant or nursing. My doctor has no idea why, but sees no reason to treat it. I just eat a bit more salty food than I normally would, and that seems to keep it from getting crazy low. It's never caused me any real problems; The occasional dizzy spell, but that's about it. Oh, and it scared a few nurses when my son was born, and it crashed just after delivery. Bounced back on it's own very quickly though.

Mine has always been that "low" and every doctor I've seen has said that it's great (mine rises slightly with pregnancy to "normal" range).

KJ: I'm the same way. I'm about 10 pts below the average norm. Doctors are always perplexed but pleased with it and in pg it goes to the average norm.

OP: You pressure seems about the average? The average can range from 5 pts below or above for normal blood pressure. I know I do suffer Reynaud's Syndrome as a result of my blood pressure (cold hands, cold feet, warm heart).

I wouldn't worry too much about it, lower is better within reason.

Oh no! I totally didn't mean to cause panic! For me, my adrenals and thyroid crashed big-time 3 years ago, and it took a while to figure out why I was suddenly feeling so horrible. My quality of life just dropped like a stone, it's affected our whole family. And so I was just saying, if it's your adrenals that are somewhat stressed now, it's better to a) start treating that, and b) make sure you really understand _why_ your adrenals got so stressed so that you address that, too, and can really heal. I didn't mean anything more than that, I'm so sorry!

ETA: in retrospect, it's become obvious that my adrenals were struggling for years and years, probably since my teens. But I was clueless and no one ever suggested that there were signs of problems to come.

Has your blood pressure always been low or is this new? Also, are you on any treatment for your thyroid problem? What type of thyroiditis do you have? Some can cause low blood pressure. Low blood pressure is generally a good thing if it is the norm for your body however if this is a new symptom then it needs to be investigated more.

That's the same line I always got. How I wish I'd found out earlier that lower does not equal better. My adrenals are shot. If I'd found out earlier & began supporting them sooner, I wouldn't be in such a physical rut.

Check out the adrenal thread. You need to treat the adrenals before you treat the thyroid.
