June 6, DANVILLE - Jack Newman, MD, FRCPC, world-renowned breastfeeding expert, will present the "Controversies in Breastfeeding" seminar at Geisinger Medical Center's Hemelright Auditorium, Thursday, June 16, from 2 to 4 pm.

Dr. Newman, a Toronto pediatrician, has been practicing in medicine since 1970. In 1984 he established the first hospital-based breastfeeding clinic in Canada, at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. He now holds clinics at several hospitals throughout the Toronto area. He has been a consultant for UNICEF's Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, and is a popular speaker at breastfeeding conferences in Canada and the United States.

The seminar will be open to the public, including the WIC Clinic, social workers, school nurses, La Leche League, and any one who may support a breastfeeding mother. To register, please call (570) 271-6560.

Funding for the seminar is provided by Pennsylvania's Department of Health-Bureau of Family Health mini grant for Pennsylvania's Breastfeeding Awareness and Support Program and a generous private donation.
