January/February '04 toddlers? :)

I hope no-one minds if I start a new thread.....

I just wondered if there are many other mamas of 16/17 month old toddlers here, and how things are going?

My DD seems to be going through a growth spurt - she's eating everything that isn't nailed down, wants to nurse all the time, and is sleeping a lot more than usual (including through the night!
). And naturally she's started to grow out of clothes that have fit her for 4 months. :LOL

My brother is visiting, and he is BRILLIANT at interpreting what she's saying - he's actually identified about 8 words that I didn't even realize she was saying.
: So much for mommy intuition, eh?

Hi there

Glad to see a June one and welcome! DD (1.19.04) Celeste also seems to be going through a growth spurt. Now has 16 teeth and no hair! She is going through a language spurt too though has been quite verbal for a while.

Definitely enjoying toddlerhood now though and wonderful watching her develop and change!

She is quite strong willed too but really sweet and now says and signs PWEEZE when she wants something, very hard to resist lol. But better than the tantrums were...umm are!!

Pleased to "meet" ya! My DS is 16 months now, and we are enjoying him immensely! He has started talking more - has always been very expressive in his vocalizations, but only just recently saying things that sound like words (yay!), and is a little daredevil (which I thought would bother me more than it does - he's pretty sure on his feet, so he rarely hurts himself, thank goodness!)

He is really into playing with "real world" objects, and not so interested in toys.....I told my husband, the next child gets tupperware and cardboard boxes, and that's it - ha!

I swear his feet are growing a mile a day - he grew out of a size 5 sandal 3 weeks ago, and now his toes are almost hanging over the 6's he has now - he'll be out of those in a matter of days, I have a feeling.

Tantrums? Um, what are those? :LOL

Have a great day ladies

So glad to hear others are in the same boat. DS (2/12/04) isn't talking but is also a little daredevil - into and on *everything*.
Tantrums - does your little one hit you? How do you handle it?
Teeth - he has 8 but working on a bunch at once now. Poor little guy is in pain inspite of any meds.
We're trying to start weaning and have almost phased out 1 nursing. But I have a feeling we're in for a struggle this summer. Nightime is the hardest. He still wakes up at night and we tried night weaning but after 45 minutes of crying (in arms) I couldn't take anymore. Maybe someday soon I hope to sleep for 7 straight hours!
His eating varies. Last couple days it's been barely anything (due to teeth - ??) but sometimes he'll eat everything off my plate if I let him.
One of his favorite toys is Daddy's Xbox controller! We tried to give him an old one but that didn't work. Only wants Daddy's!

Hope this time I can stick with the thread. I'm not always on (no internet at home) but desperately need some mama connection.

Aidan seems to be the only one that has DECREASED his food intake lately. He's been picking at his food, sometimes gobbling it down, but mostly just moderately eating. I'm wondering if it's the heat getting to him though.

12 teeth here, no sign of any more yet.

Tantrums? Gosh, yes! If he doesn't get his way, he throws himself on the floor. He's learning about sharing now, as I'm babysitting my niece and nephew (5 and almost 3) and my nephew and he are similar in size...and are fighting. .
He's so used to the older two just giving him whatever!

He's talking alot, "Whatsat?" over everything, even the cell phone hoping that you'll give it to him I guess. :LOL

Xbox? Yep, can't keep that controller away from him. We had to start unplugging it everytime because he knows how to turn it on and open it too. He also figured out that you have to turn on the VCR to turn that on. Smart kid!

Bumping this up...

We went to the pool for the first time today (the big kids have been biking over but this was the first time for Aidan).

He had a GREAT time! No fear, though, jumping right in my arms and treading water and blowing bubbles.

One little girl was grabbing his "piggies" though when he was sitting on the edge and he kept yelling "CHOP IT!" (stop it!) at the top of his lungs. He knows his boundaries!

Thanks for starting this barista!

Oh goodness... we have FOUR teeth. Jordan will be 17 months at the end of June, and most of her little friends have at least 12-13. Many have molars! I just don't know about the teeth. But it doesn't stop her from chowing down on anything and everything.

She has exploded verbally. Today as I was changing her diaper (she told me "poop" and pointed to her diaper, then made the sign for diaper!
) she pointed and said quite clearly "wall!" I don't even know where she got that from.

The tantrums are definitely decreasing as her vocabulary expands. Usually we say "I can't understand when you whine, please tell me what you would like" So yesterday as we got into the car she was saying "EIEIEIEIEIE!!!!!!!!" very loudly. It sounded like she was just yelling so I gave her the usual schpiel on using her words. So she started shrieking and pointing toward the radio. Turns out she was requesting Old MacDonald (E-I-E-I-O). No wonder she was frustrated! I WAS using my words mom! Get with the program! :LOL

She is also outgrowing the hitting (yes, us too mysonshine). At first I was getting so pissed and I would say NO HITTING! Or GENTLE HANDS! (kinda defeats the purpose when you yell it...
) So I tried saying "ouch! Hitting hurts! gentle hands please" rather quietly and she started patting gently after that, and even giving kisses. It hasn't happened in over a week now that I think about it. So hang in there

Well we have not had hitting but Celeste was grabbing my boob and I guess I said OW! a lot. Well now she does it (very gently) and say's OW! loudly, and she will have her clown or bear do it too and says OW! She actually put her clown on me the other day to nurse lol, DH was cracking up!

Definitely in the throes of toddlerhood, today she climbed on the kitchen table (luckily I was right behind her) and attacked DH's quiche with the fork!
