I wrote a letter (via e-mail). This is another attempt at the media not wanting to 'offend' bottle-feeders but in the process they perpetuate the fact that bottle-feeding is the 'norm' whereas breastfeeding is not. I am heated, I hate getting riled up at this stuff, I wish I didn't feel so passionate sometimes.

Lactationmom, Im pretty mad myself. Can you imagine the conversation that took place between the people involved in the ad-making and the publishers or whatever???? "yep, it's a nursing gown for breast-feeding, you know , women can pump and then get right to feeding !!?? eh???"

Ya know, a thought just occured to me, that the baby might have been fussy, and feeding obviously made him/her feel more confortable. Could the mother of this child formula feed?

It may have been a complete goof, and one they thought no one would notice.

What a fascinating product. Seems that "Inverted center-front pleat hides nursing slits." HIDES those slits so well, the model couldn't even find her breasts.

I wonder who they are trying to market these pajamas too???!!!

:LOL

edited to add the following info

I just sent an email via this link
http://www.jcpenneyeservices.com/csr...sp?EMail=&VID=

Then I clicked on "womens" under the "Questions Pertaining to Merchandise/Products" section on the right side of the page. This took me to a screen with an email form. The product number is FC115-7312D and I used the pull-down to select maternity products.

I basically told them what geniuses they are to offend the very customers most likely to buy the product and that I wouldn't be purchasing any maternity or nursing items from them and was considering not buying ANYTHING from JCPenney in the future.

I sent this:

I was shopping for nursing wear on your website and saw the ridiculous ad for this product. The mom is wearing a nursing top and feeding the baby a bottle. My husband and I had a good laugh, and then decided not to buy anything from your website at all if that's the way you're going to market products to breastfeeding mothers. Maybe in the future, you could find nursing models like Motherwear does. You could have even just had the mom holding the baby. But giving a bottle? Very strange.

I wrote a letter too

I was looking for some nursing wear when I came across your site and could not believe my eyes when I saw an Ad for a nursing gown with the model bottle feeding a baby. Personally I find this stange and am reluctant to spend money on an item that is so poorly advertised.
Might as well model little boys in girls clothes and vice versa, its about the same thing in my eyes.
Hmm wonder who's idea it was to try and sell a product to a group by insulting them.
Sincerely
A customer who is taking her business somewhere else.

about a month ago in their actual catalog. my mom was looking for a nursing nightgown for my sister & we could not believe that picture. i do not have a problem seeing pics of women bottlefeeding per se, it is when they are shown bottlefeeding WHILE WEARING NURSING CLOTHES that i get a tad steamed. i am gonna email them later. thanks for the link!

--- the totally crazy thing is that they didnt have to have baby doing anything at all to show the gown!!! WHY the bottle?????
this is just plain stupid and i can not figure it out. i mean sure, people are in general pretty ignorant about breastfeeding but this is like--------- no brain, nothing going on up there at ALL!

okay, since i have not yet received a response to the letter i e-mailed them i will have to do it again. this is just in case that persons behind this ad believe that nursing gowns are for pumping and then quickly bottlefeeding with the ease factor in the pumping while in pjs

I think I can almost see the... well, what passes for logic inside their mainstream brains. They want to instill the idea of a mother feeding her baby, (because that's what the shirt's for), but they can't show breastfeeding
for fear of offending the little mainstream minds of their customers, so they "have" to show the mother bottlefeeding instead. It's just an automatic substitution for them and they don't even think about the implications.

It sort of reminds me of a children's book from the 50's called The New Baby or something, that tells the story of a small child who is getting a new little sibling. All through the book, the mother is dressed in typical 50's style (dress, heels, make-up, hairdo, pearls ... oh, and don't forget the apron of course), and has a 16" waist. They show things like the delivery man delivering the crib
but even when they show the mother the day before she goes to the hospital, she still has a 16" waist. You simply could not show a picture of an obviously pregnant woman, especially in a children's book, even though it makes the whole book just not make sense at all.

That is crazy!

Around here I saw an ad for the Boppy pillow as a *feeding aid* and it showed the mom bottlefeeding the baby who was comfortably lying on the nursing pillow. Strange that they offend the people most likely to buy their products!
