I was reading over on the main thread about your camp. And I take it, you speak German.

David took German in high school and grew up around a very German household (grandparents spoke German a lot around the house), so anyway I would love to learn German and expose the wee ones to it too. David talks to them a little bit in German (his is very rusty). And sometimes he'll ask me stuff... like I have any idea what he's asking!

We have several children's books that are German or bi-lingual. Any suggestions for a good program? Mainly for me to get a grasp (I took a year of french in HS... years ago :LOL). Figure I should learn some of my heritage too.

Well, Berlitz is never bad. If you want to watch a terrific cartoon-story with your kids, go for Muzzy, it's so sweet and hilarious. Beyond that, I don't have a lot of suggestions. I'll ask my brother-in-law, he started working for Siemens about a year ago and was looking for something similar.

Most of all, however, I think that you would do best to look for a community-ed class. Since you're in Texas and there are a lot of Germans in Texas, you ought to be able to find something and then you'll have a real live person to interact with.

I know it's amazing how strong the German communities still are here in Texas. Half the streets and schools in the area I grew up in are German. I went to "Strack" Intermediate School, "Klein" High School, there were also Hildebrandt, Wundlerlich, Mittelstadt, Kaiser, Krahn, Theiss, Schindewolf and Kuykendahl schools and streets. We really love the Hill Country area of Texas, there are some really strong communities up there. In Fredricksburg, most people still speak German in their homes, some of the smaller communites around only really speak German at all.

Not that I know anything about German, but the Rosetta Stone Language software is absolutely amazing. It is total immersion and you learn so quickly that even you are shocked! I have been working on Arabic for about 2 months and have learned more Arabic than I ever learned of Spanish in my three years spent in high school Spanish class. I can't say too many good things about their programs.

I forgot to add that it is also really fun because it is fast paced and you feel a real sense of accomplishment.
