I don't have too much to say about it, but it is news.

You're right, it's news. He certainly didn't seem like a fellow I'd vote for. For his loved ones.

Here is the one nice thing they mention about him in the article:

Wow! It's amazing how some people can be extraordinarily good and bad. That's actually surprisingly beautiful.

I don't understand. Was the adoption bad? Or are you referring to Strom Thurmond?

I would like to think the legacies he leaves behind (I'm thinking of the religious intolerance and unwillingness to be open minded) will be short-lived at best.

I referenced the quote referring to Strom Thurmond's daughter.

Yep, bye. I'm sure his friends and family will miss him.

I lived in NC when he was its senator. I'll never forget the mean-spiritedness we heard about regularly. So yeah. Bye.

I read his biography on Wikipedia. Amazed at the personal cruelty, not just the bigoted votes.

Which is why I am confused at the incredible compassion to just impulsively adopting a disabled child because he said he wanted parents. A beauty that I wish I saw more in human beings, yes, myself included.

I have met some people who seem to be split personalities, who seem to change souls according to situation. Kind of the way Charles Manson was a vegetarian who loved animals. I saw a picture of him once, hold a wild crow, smiling at it. He seemed like a gentle man of nature, not the bug-eyed loon with a swastika on his forehead. Strange.

I guess Jesse Helms was one of them, too.

My dad back in the 70's was offered a job to work for his campaign. My dad didn't want it, didn't know much about him. I'm glad I don't have that attached to our family name.
