Hello ladies, new here and glad to be here...

I CD'd my DS as a newborn until about 4 months, then fell off the wagon. Maybe I just didn't have a good enough system. The bulk really got to me, and we were on the go go go a lot. Enough excuses...

I've been wanting to go back to CDs, especially with DC#2 coming along in December. But DS has decided at 13 months that having a diaper changed is the worst sort of torture. I know I shouldn't leave him in sposies for long periods of time, but I can't imagine battling him to change him every two hours like I did when he was new.

Will he always fight diaper changes now? Is there a way to make it more enjoyable so that I feel like I could commit to jumping back on the wagon? Should I aim for velcro systems for speed? Any advice?

Many thanks,
R.

Congratulations for getting back to cloth...it's never too late I would say that most all young toddlers go through a wiggly, hating to be changed phase...no matter what type of diaper you use. My DD is 19 months now and will finally lay still through a diaper change.

If you want a system that is a quick change and keeps baby dry I would suggest either Happy Heiny's or fuzzi bunz pocket diapers. I can usually get away with a bit longer between changes when I use my fuzzi bunz. Hemp inserts are trim and you can use as few or as many as you need. I wouldn't suggest using prefolds as stuffers...they are pretty bulky.

I am sure some other Mama's here will have some suggestions for you as well. I don't have any advice for making changes less frequent. We usually try to change as soon as DD is wet...sometimes it is every 2 hours...sometimes every 1/2 hour.

We just started CDing at home again (daycare won't let us cd at school) and I bought fuzzi bunz. They make for quick diaper changes and I can leave her in there for 2 hours (unless poopy of course). They seem to do pretty well over night too. I use the joey bunz inserts and they're almost as trim as sposies. I also like the snaps 'cause dd has figured out velcro so that way her diaper stays on even if she's not wearing pants or shorts.

Also, have you tried the standing up diaper change? I can't do it when dd is poopy but works pretty well otherwise and my busy girl seems to prefer that to having to lie down for diaper changes.

It will pass -- eventually he will stop fighting you and not mind having his diaper changed (most likely all babies are different).

If you are going for quick and easy changes I say pocket dipes or AIOs. If you go the pocket diaper route definitly check out Wonderoos. I prefer these 100 to 1 over both Happy Hineys and Fuzzi Bunz.

They are much trimmer, have suedecloth inner instead of fleece so they stay looking new MUCH longer and are a one sized diaper so when your son PL you can use them on the new baby. Or you can get one big stash of them and use them on both babies at the same time since you can customize how absorbant you need them to be by how much you stuff them with.

Good luck - you can do it!
