I got interrupted ... let me try this again!

Happy Monday Mamas!
Anyone have appointments this week? I have a dentist appointment (try #2
) on Wednesday and midwife appointment on Friday (27 weeks).

Things are always interesting here ... never a dull moment.
We found fleas on our indoor cat yesterday. UGH! We gave him a flea bath and a good brushing and will Borax our carpets. Hopefully we'll be rid of them soon. Then this morning we tried to go on a hike, but the biting insects were aweful and we had to turn around. We're covered in bites (insect repellant did NOTHING!), found 2 ticks on dd's shirt and another on the carpet next to dh's shirt and have checked each other from head to toe. We had other plans for today as well, but the kids decided they want to stay home and relax.

Dh asked me what I want to do today and I said, "Go somewhere and have a huge meal since for once I actually have an appetite and it's too hot to cook....but we can't afford it." to which he responded, "Why don't YOU go out and have a nice meal somewhere while you're running your errands. We could probably afford that." I love my dh!
So...I'm going to have a nice lunch today! Now I just have to shower off all this bug repellant and decide where to eat...

Have a great week, everyone!

That's so sweet of your dh, Amanda. Wish we could all join you for that nice lunch. Sounds wonderful to me!

We stayed home, for the most part, this weekend. Though I did get an awesome deal on one of those big rocking horses, like I used to have as a kid, for my youngest. I found out about craigslist.org this past week & found this horse (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=toys), still new in the box, being offered for $45! That was a great find.

I'm kicking around the idea of putting a science class together for home schoolers. My ds really wants me to do this but I'm just feeling wishy-washy lately & am afraid I'll flake on it & feel like a big jerk. Anyone else ever get like this?

So when does the 3rd trimester actually begin? I'm in my 27th week now but have heard it's either the 28th week or the middle of the 27th. I can't seem to find any info on it now that I'm looking for it.

My dh has been sick since yesterday. Some sort of intestinal thing. I hate it when he's sick.
I ended up calling in sick for him today. His boss got a kick out of that which struck me as odd. His boss bothers me anyway. I don't like talking to him at all. I always feel like he's patronizing me when I do talk to him & it really irritates me, but you can't tell off the boss, yk?

That's about it for us. Hope everyone has a great week!

I'm pretty sure the third tri starts in the 27th week...at what point I don't know, nor do I care LOL. I figure if today starts my 27th week, then I'm in the third tri. it's easier to explain that to dh than anything else. My little pregnancy wheel does say next week though. Oh well.

Our weekend was wonderfully uneventful! We stayed home, well, I did run out to the consignment store on Saturday, but I was alone LOL. My ears have been doing this ultra annoying thing, where they clogg up. It used to be (when pg with ds) that it meant I was going to be ill. Now, I have no idea. For about a week it coinsided with needing to have a bowel movement, sorry for the TMI. But now, not so much...it's just there. The weather is a factor, but usually only when I go outside, which I haven't done today, and my ears are already funky. It makes me feel a little dizzy too. Oh well, I'll drink more water.

I am almost caught up on laundry and dishes now! I really just have to put away the laundry, what's in the hamper now is from Friday-Sunday night. And the dishes..well, I think I forgot to run the washer last night so I'll have to do it tonight with any extra stuff from today thrown in. No big deal. It took 4 loads of dishes to catch up there (along with the stuff we'd used that day, and some larger items from making lasagna!)

I think I have an OB appointment this week, and I know I see my MW on Saturday. I don't really care about the OB appt. They are going to try to make me do the gtt I'm sure. "No thank you!"

Hmm...what else is going on. Not a whole lot. I've gotten all the baby stuff into the office, and all the clothes are beginning to fill up one of our bassinets. I'm not washing anything until late July so I'll have more of it to wash! No since in washing half a load. Dh still needs to go find my Boppy. It's in the basement, and I bought it at a yard sale, I'd like to wash it a few times before I put my LUXE Boppy Slipcover on it. I found a pretty pink crushed velvet one

Well, I guess that's it. *yawn* too bad it isn't nap time yet.

Welcome to a new week! I am so pleased that it sounds like there were some good weekends. Mine was nice. We moved in our new couch and love seat. I really like them.

Then my husband and I took ds and went on a bit of a road trip to Central Wisconsin to see some of the pretty scenery. It was nice. I would love to someday have a vacation home up in that area.

I would love to take a nap.... Oh! My dh bought me a sling at my mw appt last Thursday. It is a display model, so I am trying to figure out how it works. Anyone have any experience with Sling Ezee slings?

Well, I need to get the kiddos rounded up to run a few errands. I will talk to you all later. Here is to a good week that goes quickly!

Hi mams! It sounds like everyone had a good weekends!

Shannon...great find w/ the rocking horse! I totally know what you mean about wanting to set up something for homeschool but being afraid you'll flake on it...I get the same way! I'd say the third trimester starts in the 27th week, exactly when I have no idea!

Nap? I really need one, but the kids are crazy today!

I just got home from my wonderful lunch out (with Haley!) and running a zillion errands. I was gone for 3.5 hours, dh was home with the boys, who can enterain themselves. He had 3.5 hours to get a bunch of things on his looooon list (that he's been putting off) done. He made 2 phone calls and did a load of laundry. That's it.
I'm not happy. Although my lunch was great, the errands I had to run afterwards (in the HEAT) were a pain, especially w/ taking almost-3 year old dd in and out of her carseat, carts, etc. I'm exhausted. He sat in the air conditioned house and did basically nothing (except find out that if he had called the salvage yard 3 months ago like he was supposed to, he'd have been able to get several hundred dollars for our two dead vehicles, but now we have to pay them to tow them away
: ). Dh doesn't seem to realize the urgency of getting stuff done ... I have 13.5 weeks until my due date, which, with all he has to get done, isn't very much time. Argh! (Vent over..thanks for listening
)

I'm feeling like I've been in the third trimester for a couple of weeks, but the doctor put me two weeks back based on the ultrasound, so according to hi, I'm just getting into week 27 now.

I've had such a busy month that I haven't had time to post any updates!

Let's see ...

Went to my 20th high school reunion two weekends ago. That was fun, saw a bunch of old friends whom I adored back then, and caught up with a few others. My grad class was 500 people, so there was also a LOT of "who are you again?" going on. Everybody had kids ranging in age from newborn (someone brought his 3-mo) to adult. There was one guy there who's about to be a grandfather!

Also hit a baby swapmeet two weekends ago, and got some fun stuff for DS, who's going to be two this Friday. I feel a little bad that DS2 is going to be in hand-me-downs from DS1, from clothes to toys, but on the other hand, I loved some of DS1's clothes, and it'll be great to put them on another babe.

I picked up an Amby from a local mdc mom, and will be setting that up sometime over the next month or two. I'm sure hoping that it will help DS2 be a better sleeper than DS1! (DS1 woke up screaming last night, and was inconsolable until I turned all the lights on. I think it might have been a nightmare, but I sure felt badly for him, despite the 10 minutes of him screaming into my right ear.)

We had my local mom's group over to my place over the weekend -- seven 2yos storming through my house, scattering DS's toys all over the place and generally wreaking havoc. It was fun until he got tired of fighting for his toys and needed his nap. Fortunately, it was naptime for all the other kiddoes too, so they all left at the same time.

I pinched something in my back last week, and it hurt like hell all weekend. It seems to have fixed itself today, but I'm just going to take it as easy as possible so that it doesn't come back. I'm thinking that perhaps the baby growth-spurted and my back couldn't keep up with the extra load? I certainly had to let out the elastics from my maternity pants last week, so that's my current theory.

Tips on back exercises in pregnancy would be very welcome!

Hi ladies!

Shannon - I feel the same way. I think something is a good idea today but might not tomorrow. I feel like I don't want to make any commitments.

I only get Saturdays as a weekend since dh works 6 days a week. And it was ok. We went to the mall and had lunch and walked around and I couldn't breath and was really annoyed by that. We were there 4 hours and by the time I got home I was soooo tired and worn out. I still feel like I am recovering :LOL

They are all beautiful! Ladies, I see some of you have done this before, I love the personal notes and the inspiring words! I will have my friend string them for me this weekend (she makes bead necklaces and when I told her about the swap she offered to string for me). Thank you everyone for the beautiful and thoughtful beads & words!

I found my bassinet on eBay this weekend, I had the same one when dd#1 was born but gave it away after #2, it's a cool wicker one on castors, great for dragging around a sleeping baby so I can have a shower! I got it at a great price, new; I've been checking on it for months and checked out every web site that carries it, it is pricey but I did good!

I went to Old Navy this am for another bathing suit and I wanted a 2 piece for my birth. I picked out 5 suits, figured I return what I did not like, I hate trying stuff on. So I go to the checkout and one of the suits is $1.97!!!!!! I'll be keeping that one! It was the nicest one and fits great! I'll list what I don't want one eBay, they were 50% off so I can make a few bucks on them on eBay
.

Been spending these hot, humid days floating around my pool and doing some exercise too. My dds can live in the pool, they just don't tire, so I get to stay cool too. They have been to bed by 7pm despite school having ended because they are beat after spending the day in the water. Gotta love that!

From here on, my days will be very boring, just hanging at the house, school is out so no more drop off & pick up!
I've been telling everyone they can come anytime as long as they bring food, :LOL . I'm officially parked for the summer. All my shopping will be online until September.

I feel I need a nap every afternoon around 2:30pm, anyone else? DH has a home office and my dds are great at entertaining themselves so I get to indulge everyday. Seems like right after lunch I need a 30 to 60 minute nap to rejuv, it does a world of good.

Currently reading "Healing yourself during Pregnancy", highly recommend!

Have a great week everyone!

Anyway...
cuqui...a pool and a nap?!?! I'm jealous! What a great find on bathing suits!!!

wenat...hope your back stays better! It sounds like you had a hectic, yet fun time with all those kids!

Full Heart... I completely understand about 4 hours of walking/shopping wearing you out! I was out w/ dd for 3.5 hours yesterday morning, then did a bunch of cleaning and, even after a good night's sleep, I'm DRAGGING today!

It's HOT and HUMID and I have to take the kids to their nature class at 4:00 this afternoon. UGH! I was out running errands at 10 this morning and could barely make it to and from the car! I just turned on the tv and there are a bunch of schools across the state w/ early dismissal - according to one of the news websites...due to the heat! (Where's the sweating to death smilie?)

I have big plans tonight: Put the kids to bed (dh will be at work), do my prenatal yoga, eat a bowl of black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream
, and then make my birth necklace with the BEAUTIFUL beads I received in the mail yesterday from many of you! Yippee!

We just got back from the pool! Unfortunatly the pool's we have here are either ankle deep or my labor pool!! LOL So the ankle one is great for when it's not super hot (which isn't gonna happen anymore) and I can just stick my feet in, and the labor pool, which they (the kids) can't have until next summer.

We were at the pool for an hour, it was still cool enough in the water to make it very comfortable, and ds did SO GREAT! He was holding on to a floatie that I pulled around, and kept his life jacket on. He even got out of the pool about 10 times to jump to me!! I am so proud! My husband hates to swim, so it's up to me to teach the kids and get them excited about it, which is fine, because I adore it. And while ds was hanging on the side of the pool with out the float, I got to hang on it, and relax my lower back for a bit, and WOW did that feel GREAT!! I promised him if he took a nap that we'd go again tomorrow. It was a little crowded, but we just need one chair for our stuff and we're set! We also only stay for 1 hour at a time, since the best time to go is BEFORE nap time...which can get pretty dicey!

*yawn* I think I'll go remind him that if he wants to go to the pool again, he needs to get back in bed to sleep....so I can sleep too!

Hi ladies! Last week was eventful due to a bit of a scare about the state of my cervix. I complained (again) to my OB about all the pelvic pain I've been having, plus pretty frequent BH. Since the u/s tech was in the office that day, she had him check my cervix. He did a translabial view and measured me at 2cm. Not good.

So I was put on bedrest and told to come back in a week for a follow-up. In the meanwhile, I requested a referral to a perinatologist, whom I saw on Friday. When he did an u/s transvaginally, he measured me at 3.2cm, right in the normal range. He said all the data on preterm labor risk is based on TV views, so the TL really doesn't apply. Nice, huh? He did say that he thinks techs and others who aren't gyn's have a hard time sticking instruments into vaginas, so they avoid TV if possible. :LOL

The peri also confirmed that all the pain is from pelvic separation and that I basically have to live with it. He said some womens' bodies just go overboard with loosening the ligaments and it can be pretty painful. It was a relief to have it validated!

Now my OB still wants me to come in for a follow-up tomorrow, and I'm deciding whether to humor her or not. I feel the same as I have for weeks/months, and the specialist said I have a cervix "to die for." But I did have premature contractions (with cervical changes) at 31 weeks last time, so that makes me a bit jumpy.

On the happy side, the baby is really active these days. It's definitely a girl; she was being wanton for the last 2 u/s and it was pretty obvious.

Hey Mamas,

I haven't posted on the weekly thread in a while, so I thought I'd better jump in.

I'm feeling really tired, hot and sweaty right now. Went to the park with DS who is 2 and it's humid and 90 today in Atlanta. YUCK!! I think I'm growing mushrooms under my boobs because I'm so sweaty!

I had a great spurt of nesting this past week and weekend. I sorted through DS's infant stuff through 18/24 month stuff and gave away everything that wouldn't be too butch for my baby girl. I also ordered my birthing kit and birthing pool kit so that it's one last thing I have to worry about late in the summer when I slow down a little.

I'm really getting excited now about delivering in late September. Something is happening to me in terms of embracing the color pink for girl clothes. I used to hate to see so much pink until I learned I was pregnant with a girl. NOW I find baby girl clothes so entoxicating! I can barely keep my cart on a straight path in Target when I pass the girls clothing! Yikes.

OT: Anyone experiencing soreness in their lower back? My sacrum is sore most evenings after a long day. I think I need a massage.....

hope everyone has a great day!

Hi everybody!

I'm settling back in to normal life after two glorious weeks of vacation on the eastern shore. My brother's wedding was really nice, and we had lots of time to catch up with both sides of the family. And it turned out that my mom was being honored at a retirement dinner the day we were planning to leave, so we pushed the drive back till the next day & went with her, which was fun and made her SO happy! Anyway, the weather was mostly great & we got in tons of beach time, which was absolute heaven.

As for appointments this week, today I go in for a follow up ultrasound to check the baby's growth. (The dr thought it seemed small on the first one.) Tomorrow I get to have two cavities filled, which I'm actually excited about because I've been unable to chew on the left side of my mouth for months. And the dentist made it sound like the chances of my insurance covering them was really slim, so I'm happy that they were approved & I don't have to drum up the cash.

Naps, you say? Yes!!! I've been insanely lethargic... Don't know if it's the heat, the pregnancy, or my body still recovering from two long days on the road, but I've been indulging in afternoon naps for sure.

Sacral issues, yep, here too, off & on. Usually when I get up from laying down on the couch or sitting in a chair, and sometimes it seems to pinch up during walking. Doing some pelvic circles or tilts seems to help work it out, even if it makes my husband look at me like I'm insane. Also whenever possible I sit with my legs crossed instead (indian style or tailor sitting) which helps broaden that area.

I'm really jealous of you mamas with access to swimming pools... I've got one potential pool lifeline & it's getting just hot enough here to shamelessly beg for that favor. Wish me luck!

wenat: Two of my prenatal yoga tapes feature a simple back strengthener where you start on your hands and knees with your back flat, then raise one leg parallel to your back. If you feel comfortable and balanced you can then lift the opposite arm. Hold it for a few breaths. Then repeat with the other side. And there's also the cat & cow pose, where you're on your knees and slowly rounding your spine down then arching it up. And for pure release of the lower back muscles there's child's pose, where you'd start sitting by on your heels, spread your knees wide, and lean forward letting your belly rest between your legs, forehead on the floor or a pillow for support. Hope that helps!

Wow, a few weeks have passed me by without posting in the weekly thread, but there's nothing really new to report here. It's nice reading everyone's updates though!

So, is it just me or is anyone else kind of sad that their second trimester is over? I mean, I know it sounds ridiculous because we're just that much closer to having our babies here with us, but it really was a nice few months. I'm sure this trimester will have its perks too, though!

Have a happy week...

Joey...I second the exercises that nolajen recommended. They've been a major help to me as well as tailor sitting on the floor or sitting on my birth ball instead of sitting on the couch.

nolajen... Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation! Good luck at the ultrasound and
about insurance coverage for your dental work!

curlyfry... Yes, I'm a bit sad that I'm in the third trimester already. This pregnancy has flown by and I've barely had a chance to enjoy it!

I survived the dentist today!
I thought he was going to pull out a couple of teeth the way he was poking, prodding, pulling and scraping! I go back next month (july 11) to get lots of fillings. I also need to have a few teeth pulled, but that can wait until after baby arrives. I didn't have a chance to talk to him about what kind of fillings he's going to use (I got a bit distracted...read on!), so I'll call the office tomorrow and make sure there will be no mercury for me!
The distraction...the dentist's wife is 8 months pregnant, so the topic of my pregnancy came up in discussion. He asked me what I'm having, I said I don't know and won't be finding out. He asked why not and I said because my midwives don't do ultrasounds unless one is medically necessary. He asked me, "Then how do you keep track of how baby is growing and know what baby will weigh when it's born?"
I chose to stay off my soapbox and said, "I trust my body and my baby." He then asked what doctor I see and I said, I see two midwives, and he again said, "And what doctor?" I said, "I don't see an OB. I have a consult with one in August for backup purposes, but only see my midwives for prenatal visits, birth and postpartum." Then the receptionist (bless her) started asking me what days were best for me for my next appointment.....whew! He was so stunned at the concept of midwifery care that I thought he might pass out if I mentioned that I'm having a homebirth! :LOL Unfortunately, he's the only dentist I can find in my area who is covered by my insurance.

I'm off to do Father's Day projects with my kids! I'll check back in later.

Thanks for the exercies reminders. I sit on the floor in the tailor/indian sit most times. But I will do some pelvic tilts to help my lower back. I also broke down and used an ice pack for 20 minutes which helped tremendously!

Okay, an other small b*tch. Anyone else taking Alfalfa tablets for the Vitamin K?? I'm SOOOOO sick of them!
For that reason alone, I hope my 3rd trimester flies by :LOL

On an upnote, baby girl is kicking like crazy today. I feel like she's telling me to hurry up and find her a name already. DH and I don't agree on names right now. I'm sure one will magically come to us right in time.

Hope you all had a great day.

My turn to check in again. Well today was not the best day in the world. Dh's truck broke down and he is fixing it himself. So he will be taking my car to work tomorrow so that he doesn't have to miss two days of work to fix the truck. I don't blame him. I am loath to think of how tomorrow will go, but anything that get dh out of my hair when he is grumpy is fine with me. He was really hoping to be holding a new shotgun tonight, instead of working on the truck. I totally understand how he feels. I would have liked for him to have the shotgun as well. *sigh*

My children are goofballs. They love each other for like 5 minutes then hate each other and so on and so forth. We are having a grand night.

Since I am just quickly touching base before going to save dh for our children I just wanted to say that I found a new realtor today. I like this woman so much better than the guy we had before. She has been a great help and we have only met with her once! She showed us a house today. I don't feel that it is the one for us, but we are getting closer. I can feel it in my bones. Dh isn't as leary of the old homes now that he knows there are grants out there to pay to replace windows, furnaces, insulation and other such things on them. Yay! It is wonderful to have found someone who is willing to actually help us find the 1st home of our dreams!

Not much else to report on. Except that we have a very short repreeve from the heat and humidity for the next day or two! *happy dance* Hope everyone is having a good week. I will try to get to personal replies later. Take care!

Amanda - that is just too funny about the dentist. Funny and sad. I wonder how many people think like him. Glad the apt wasn't as bad you thought it would be.

Goldie - Good luck on the home search!

Curlyfry - Me too. Well not sad so much as scared. This pg has flown by and I just don't feel ready to have to think about giving birth.

I saw my midwife today and she did want to start the 2 week apts. I just don't think I can handle that. In fact can we just skip all apts till I am in labor? Thanks. I think we will just do one in 4 weeks and go from there. Maybe life will be a little slower next mos. Right now we are lucky to go grocery shopping! Oh yeah baby sounded great. Did labs - first time this pg. I highly doubt I am anemic, My body is great at absorbing iron. But it left my arms bruised and painful. Thanks mom for those tiny veins. Should have had her stick the vericose I have in my leg! LOL Again asked me if I wanted an u/s, I think we will skip it. Free or not I don't think its necessary. Even if I am a mos further ahead seeing as how I always go 2 weeks over I would fall well within the time frame for a hb.

I had an appointment today with my mw (and apprentice of course). Everything is looking great, I'm not still measuring 6cm "ahead". I'm trying not to put too much into it because I know its not exactly and I'm chubby. But I was a little shocked to be 6 cm bigger than I was weeks. Glad its caught up.

He's hanging out in this weird oblique/diagonal way, I'm pretty sure its his head on my upper right and his butt on the lower left.
dd was breech so at least he's a little to the side! More comfy for sure.

Occasional heartburn and hip pain but not too bad.

Oh and I found out that not only is a friend of mine throwing me a baby shower but two others are hosting a mother blessing. I feel really special and extra loved right now!
