Twin Cities Mamas June 19-25, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you in or near the Twin Cities?
Do you want to be?

Well, then you have found your tribe! Despite our diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and interests, two things bond us together: living in the coldest state on earth...and the love for our children which warms us. The weekly tribe thread begins anew each Saturday. Watch for the new thread on the main Minnesota/Wisconsin board.

Some of the individuals who post here meet weekly. If you are interested in attending a get together, please post your interest on the thread or send any one of us a PM. We welcome with open arms and minds the input of all parents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, political view, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, etc

Question - does anyone have an infant car seat they are trying to unload? xtradone (who has posted her a couple times) is due fairly soon & needs one. If you need $ for it, hatboxmoon, oliviasmama & I will pay for it. thx!

Snow Annababy has a carseat and offered to donate to another friend of mine who ended up not needing it. It is in great shape and it is a Graco and I have the matching stroller for it. When Kathryn was over here this week, I asked her if she needed a carseat and she said no. Anyway let us know. Anna is out of town now but I am almost certain the carseat is still fair game.

Greetings from delightful cool Bemidji!

Just a car update: the insurance agent estimated the repair costs at $2000 (ha! hahaha!) so the car is being repaired - oddly enough the agency will pay for all repairs if done by a shop on their list - and then we'll sell it and buy a new one...

German camp is going fine but I've been quite tired.

Hope you all are well and taking care with all of the mosquitoes. They haven't been so bad up here, and there have been only a few ticks and a few flies. It's just been too cold, I think. Supposedly there are swim tests today but the water has been so cold (around 55 degrees) that they may not happen yet again. It was so cold on Thursday morning that we sang "O Tannenbaum" at our morning circle. Tomorrow the high will be around 63 degrees. I'm not complaining - it feels great to me.

hi everyone! sounds like i've missed a couple good saturday morning coffee sessions. now that birthing classes are over i can come envy the drinkers of caffeine again next week!
hope everyone had a decent fathers' day. we went and made kites at the Weissman museum, where they have an exhibition of japanese kites right now... lots of string and tangles. worth seeing, since admission was free.
lessee... yeah we could use a carseat. i'm trying to get the MHP (medical insurance) info but they aren't calling back. we actually have been given one and i am fairy certain it works, however we have two cars and this one we have was to be the backup. so it's not the biggest emergency ever but we're trying to get another one. it's so overwhelming sometimes to comprehend what we need or don't or sort of might... it is surreal, since the only real evidence is still a bulge in my middle!
right now i am typing out segments of inspiration from "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" to hopefully paste up on some sort of poster to take to the hospital and hang on the wall in my midwife room to inspire myself when the day comes.
i find this book very comforting.
Hey All!
Jen, you must be a "Waldsee" -- I spent a summer next door at "Lac du Bois." Hope the bugs and snapping turtles aren't too bothersome!

Hope everyone is fine!

We just had my cousin, his wife and their delightful, perfectly behaved kids stay with us for four days. It was really nice. But an emptier house is nice too.

Hello again my Minne-ladies.

Need more advice... anyone have suggestions on apartments in the cities or surrounding suburbs? We live in Brooklyn Park right now but need to get out of here... I like the area but not my particular apartment building!

Anyway... looking for a 2BR under $850. May be impossible, I know. I swear rent here is skyrocketing like crazy with the addition of all of the 'luxury apartments.' 'Affordable' isn't really in the vocab anymore of these rental places.

Unfortunately, buying a house isn't something we can do right now. :

But if anyone has advice, kindly send it my way.

Morning everyone!!

Had a nice weekend. My parents came up and I finally was able to weed my frotn yard and plant the rest of my plants. Also picked up a backpack for O, which is making life much easier ever since he started to dislike the sling. Now all we need is a bike trailer and a little pool and we're all set for summer!!

Father's Day was fun. DH's only request was to sleep in. :) But we also went out for brunch. O was pretty good, and we ran into soem people for our birthing class, so it was fun to see them and their little boy.

Finally just got O down for a nap. Getting him to sleep has been brutal lately. We've been spending a lot of time in bed, just trying to settle him down when he is tired. It's truly driving me nuts, since bedtime usually takes 1 and a half hours, with both of us in bed with O. Is this typical for a 14 month old?
