Do you want to try and guess what breed our new dog is? We have a strong suspicion, but I'd love to hear what others think.

haha, I got it!!
Dogo's are rangier, taller and slimmer with a more chiselled head--most have cropped ears.

I love american bulldogs, I recently was training one and her name was Pheobe.

omg! i'm in love! she is SO gorgeous!
did u get her from a rescue/shelter? i didnt know American Bulldogs looked like that, i always pictured all of them short and kinda fat like the english bulldogs i usually see around here.

Without looking at other responses: pit bull mix, possibly purebred, 99% sure.

ETA: OK, American Bulldog! :)
American Bulldogs have very different temperments than pitbulls--which is just one of the reasons I'm so pissed they've been put on our province's ban list.
I love my German Shepherds, and I've always said I'd own a Standard Poodle one day, but after training 4 Am Bulldogs, they're on my list too!!!

So, OP, did you just get her as an adult??

Yes, we just got her 2 days ago. She is about 16 months old. Her temperment is truly amazing. I just love her to pieces. She fits into our family like she's been here forever. We feel so blessed.
She is really pretty. Nice square head. Good composition. Could you agility train her? She would be a great competition dog.
My am. bully has been gone for several years now, though he is cremated and next to my bed. He had 10 good years with us. He was a big "Chance-type looking" (from Homeward Bound). That dog was the biggest love, sweet and loving. All you had to do is sit on the floor with your legs crossed and he felt it was his duty to sit his big butt right on your lap like he belonged there.
Best dog we ever had.

He had a lot of skin problems. I had read that was a possibility with them, man, skin allergies, bumps, ingrown hairs, abscesses you name it he had it.
He also in his golden years had arthritis pretty bad and was on meds for that too the last couple of years....he was a gem of a dog and we will never forget him.

Enjoy your "wooly bully" they are so sweet and athletic and gorgeous to look at.

Copper, thanks for sharing the story of your am bully. I can tell how much you love him. I had a cat that I felt that much love for.

fishwithabike, we plan to do advanced obendience and then see what happens from there. She has the basics down well, so we are on our way. Agility sounds like fun.

I don't think I'll ever have another breed of dog. She is just so amazing.

She is wanting to "hunt" our cat. I may start a new thread asking for some tips on how to keep the peace.

Pitbulls (American Pit Bull Terriers) don't have bad temperaments. They make excellent family dogs. I don't like dogs, and would never own one unless a child of mine really wanted one, in which case I would adopt a pitbull or a pitbull mix. They were bred to fight, yes, but also never ever to attack humans (even when fighting), which means they are on average more people-safe than almost any other breed.

Helen Keller's dog was a pitbull. The Little Rascals' dog was a pitbull too. They are smart, loving, agile dogs. Societal conditioning is that they are dangerous, mostly because (a) evil people who fight dogs get pitbulls to fight; and (b) people can't tell what is or isn't a pitbull, so when any dog attacks anyone, it is reported as a "pitbull" or "pitbull mix" even when it isn't.

No, they really don't have very different temperaments. In fact there are a lot of similarities in the two breeds. A good APBT and a good American Bulldog will both be courageous, people-oriented, intelligent dogs that like to work. They're alert, fearless dogs, but the proper temperament in both breeds is not hostile or aggressive. Both make incredible family dogs.

That's why American Bulldogs are probably my second favorite breed, after Pit Bulls (it's two words, and capitalized like the other breeds you mentioned, btw). Both breeds also tend toward animal aggression, which is the one thing I can live without, but it can be dealt with for the other wonderful qualities they have.

Camellia, she's gorgeous!

WHOOT! I got it on the first try on the "find the pit" page
yay me!
: I am surprised that many of the breeds on that page could even be mistaken for a pit...but I guess it's the photo. IRL a Rodisian ridge back or Swiss mountain dog look nothing like a pit, let alone a Jack Russel Terrier!
:

They are good dogs, or at least all the ones I have met have been. I have met some mixes that were pretty nasty, but I think that was not nature, but rather nurture.

BTW, Easy looks SO much like my Samson did when he was little (he's now a 10 yo 80 pounder). They told me he is a Dalmation mix at the shelter... which he could be, but he is the biggest Dal I have ever met! The vet said he might be part Great Dane... whatever, he's the best dog ever. Weird the two "guess the breed" theads I visited on here today remind me a lot of my own dogs

What a cute dog! She looks so sweet. We just lost our American Staffordshire terrier who looked remarkably like your pup. Mine was all black with a white spot on her chest. Our dog was the best tempered pet. She loved our dd and was a solid companion to her with out a hint of aggression or irritation with her.

Good luck with your new family member! She looks like a real gem.
