forgive me if this has been addressed before, it's new to me!!!

Let me preface by saying dh & i have pretty much vaxed dd on schedule until the MMR. I kept putting it off, did lots of reading here & got the ped to agree to splitting the vax if i had a resource for it.

Well, our insurance company, United Healthcare, left a recorded message today to say that it appears that we may have missed a vax for our child and they want to remind us that *all* vaccines are covered by their insurance. : ???? WTF??? i get my ped wanting to give me grief (he was pretty reasonable though) but the insurance company???

Has anyone else encountered this???

we quit vaxing when the MMR came up too and haven't done a well-care check since dd was 1.(she just turned 3) She rarely gets sick so we rarely go to the doc.
We had that insurance up until last week when dh lost his job. They've never called me. Then again, I have caller ID and don't answer the phone much
Huh..wonder what's it to them?

I just got a similar call today too. I know they tried to call last week also, but I didn't answer. Today I did and she wanted to tell me DS needed his MMR and chicken pox shot I told her DS had the MMR earlier this month (what I should have done is gone on a rant about the reaction he had ). Then she went on to say "well, when is he going to get the chicken pox vaccine?". When I told her "never" there was a few moments of silence. LOL! I don't think she was expecting that one :LOL DS is on Medicaid so I assume I'll be hearing back from them. His dr says they'll be on my case because they told him that my DS got a vaccine 2 days early so he needs ANOTHER one. Because, ya know, it must not have been effective when it was 2 days early. Why not inject him with twice as much crap I told the dr no way in h*ll is he getting it again.

UGH. this happened with me...i apparently got my MMR a couple weeks too "early" as a child, so in freakin COLLEGE, they wanted me to get another one. At the time, i was not anti-vax per se, but very much anti-needle, so I managed to stave them off the whole 4 years!!!!!! Knowing what i know now, I am SOOO glad!!.

Good lord, I can't believe that a shot is off by a few days or a week or so and they think they have to redo it? That completely wreaks of people in the medical field that have to just dot their i's and cross their t's. Those types that do that are just dangerous to our healths!

To the original poster, I have seen this posted atleast twice in the last 6 months, so you aren't alone in getting the call from your health insurance. I'd just ignore it. You should be ok.

how creepy! thanks Sherra- i was a little freaked out by the big brother-ness of it!

I have actually gotten 3 measles shots!!! : My first was the day before my 1st birthday, so that 24 hours must've made some difference . So, i had to get one for elementary school. Then, there was an outbreak of measles (probably one kid) in college & i was vaxxed before their cutoff date, so AGAIN in college i got the shot! unbelievable!

Apologies if this post shouldn't be here, but can and do insurance companies refuse to cover you if you refuse to vax? My daughter is now 5 months and unvaxed and we just had our first 'reminder', but I was wondering how nasty they could get?

Thanks. I feel a little silly now, having read deeper into the forum and found the question asked before, so thanks for answering anyway.

When we had united health care I use to get calls from them and leters in the mail reminding me I had forgotten to get XYZ for my children. Insurance companies should even have the right to know what shots you have had or not had seems like invasion of privacy which NONE of us have anymore

:

Monica,

Don't feel silly. It is hard when someone is paniced by something odd that comes up. We are here for your questions and support!

I have an insurance that calls me up to remind me of shots...but I think I joined the list wayyy back when I thought shots were the thing to do. I had forgot that I signed up on the list and it took me a month or two to not freak out about it haha, then I remembered.

We don't get calls, but we do get letters occasionally that remind us that a certain round of vaccinations is coming up and how important they are. They go straight into the "in box", i.e. the trash can :LOL ! I don't think they check whether we vax or not, though, because they always come before a scheduled round and also because we opted our dd out of the states vaccine data base when she was born. Now, to me, that database is way scarier than whether my insurance company knows or not!

We had United Healthcare for several years up until about a year ago. They never sent me anything about shots but they harrassed me about pap smears plenty.

I also filed the reminder under 't' but DH rather pointedly mentioned it later on. He won't read up on the dangers, yet wants DD vaxed. He himself has asperger's syndrome, so there is no way on earth that she will get her shots.

So I guess DH is more the problem :p

We've never been called about vaccines (and ds has never received any) but they did call when he was first born to remind me that they covered circumcision? What the heck? UM NO THANKS!
