I'm wondering because it almost seems that DS is in a constant state of diarrhea. Sometimes, he even has mucous in his stool. He is always gassy. His diapers are usually "normal" colour but sometimes they are green.

What FREAKED me out is that we found blood in his diaper (just a little bit) last night, and then it disappeared. DH thinks this is from the Motrin we gave him.

But it doesn't explain the constant runny stool or the mucous or the green colour!

(when it's greenish and he's sick, I don't worry about it, but this is happening frequently now... not all the time, but at least once a week)

Also: how often does your baby do #2? My friend was shocked when I told her that DS poops a few times a day. Hers only goes once or not at all.

My son is 5 months old. He has no other signs of sickness (no fever, no extreme fussiness)

Runnier than cottage cheese definitely is how I remember my son's poops when he was a newborn.
And frequency - almost after every feeding (around 8x/day)
Up until a few months ago, he would still poop 4-6x a day. He is 18mos now.
I never could relate to those moms whose babies would poop once/week.

I believe diarrhea isn't diagnosed in BF babies unless the baby goes 12-16 times in one day, but you might want to verify that, I don't get enough sleep to be an expert.

My LO's looks like runny diarrhea, but she only goes 1-4 times a day and occasionally skips a day.

No green or blood though.

While the number of times sounds normal, and the consistency sounds normal, (le babe's poops were big wet splots in his diapers until about 9 months and happened up to 8 times daily at times), the color may or may not be a concern, and the blood should be.

The color could indicate a couple of different things.

First, foremilk/hindmilk imbalance (oversupply in the mother). Does the babe take only 1 breast per feeding? If you pump, can you pump more than 4oz per breast in any session? (This is a less accurate measure: if you can, it's probably oversupply, but if you can't it doesn't mean that it's NOT oversupply, it just means that you may have oversupply but don't respond to the pump.)

Second, overactive letdown. Overactive letdown can force a lot of air into the babe, making him gassy and sometimes make the poop green.

Third, and this combines with the blood: an intolerance to something in your diet. Dairy is the most common culprit.
