so today was supposed to be my 1st prenatal appointment with the midwife i'd carefully interviewed & chosen while we were TTC, (read:decided on in my head & heart, although today was sposed to be 1st time DH met her but he did trust my intuition when i chose her). it's snowing & icey here so she emailed to reschedule, which i had considered anyway. but in discussing today's schedule with her husband, her DH thinks we live too far away from her (30 miles), this MW does prenatal visits in the clients home. so our options are: drive to her til 36 weeks, or find someone closer. my DH said its too far for us to drive too. so now i'm back to interviewing & searching for a homebirth MW. is there other MW's to interview? Yes. do i feel like doing it? NO! i was totally set on this one MW as "the one", she felt like "the one", & i could envision my entire pregnancy & birth with her. the two MW's she recommended, i had already called & phone interviewed them when i was searching & i didnt like them & that's why i went with her. this is a terrible day, in so many more ways than just this one issue.

i'm sorry you have to find a new midwife. that is rough. personally i don't think husbands should have much say in this they are not the one to carry the baby and give birth. i hope you find someone you end up liking even more.

how long does it take you to drive 30 miles? Where I am from (Michigan), midwives and their clients usually work on a 60 minute radius--driving to their office until the last few weeks of pregnancy when the prenatal visits are held in the client's home.

i agree with the PP, if you want her, fight for her. 30 miles doesn't seem very far to me, unless you have rapid fast births or something...
