So, my oldest hears the ice cream truck, and, as usual, it is a race to get there before he can circle the court and drive off.
My 5yo, of course, has on no pants (not being a pants-wearing kinda kid ), so I grab up my 2yo, my cup of loose change, and run out the door, calling for my 5yo to put on his pants quick & come out to pick something.
When I get outside, I see that the neighbor kids (about 6 teenage boys) have stopped the truck, so my 2yo and I walk to where he is and wait.
I hear my front door slam, and look up to see not only my 5yo, but my 5 month old, 52lb black lab puppy racing for me! I tried to stop the puppy, but he bypassed me and went through the group of teens at light speed, racing around in circles, trying to tackle them and steal their ice creams.
I was terrified of losing him - he knows to come, but with the excitement he wasn't listening very well , so he didn't come when I called. I threw down my cup of change (which spilled all over some guy's front lawn), and proceeded to chase my pup around the yards of my neighbors. After 3 times of diving at him as he went by, I finally got the little bugger!
I got up, collar in hand, to see my 5yo picking up my change, my 2yo looking at the ice creams, and the teenage boys -laughing their butts off!
I'm pretty much a keep-to-yourself kinda neighbor, so they really have only seen me when I walk for the mail.
Well, now they've seen something else!
