Hi I am new to the mothering forum. I just moved to Burnaby from Santa Cruz California and am totally depressed! I need to connect!!! I've been reading the posts a mothering group in this area. I would love to join in! My family moved here 12 days ago, I have a daughter who is 3, we left a lot af loving friends behind and I think this is the saddest I've been since my occasional times of saddness after soleil was born! If anyone has any info. I'd appreciate it!

As a fellow californian, let me be the first to welcome you to canada! I live in vancouver and have a boy and a girl who just turned two and four. What brings you to burnaby? I love santa cruz!!! I planned to go to UCSC, but finances got in the way and then I met my canadian husband and moved to van about five years ago. I'm originally from chico.
I had a hard time adjusting here too, especially to all the rain. You should come to a MDC gathering (first friday of the month, location may be subject to change) to get to know some people. There are SO many community centers here, classes you can take, lots of ways of meeting people.
You can email me at [email protected] if you want to get together sometime!

welcome to BC!!

i live in the west end with my five year old, we lived near Central Park when my son was born. That's a very nice park if you haven't been there yet you should check it out.

kathleen

I'm afraid I live nowhere near you - but I want to welcome you to Canada anyway! I'm in Alberta. I'm sure you will find some wonderful new friends in time - I sure hope you enjoy our wonderful country!

Hi! I want to welcome you, too. I'm on the North Shore but am heading south to the US in a month. There is a GREAT group of Vancouver mamas here and we meet fairly regularly. This is truly a great city to raise kids. I'm afraid I'm totally not familiar with Burnaby, but if you have easy access to the city I can recommend some great places to take your daughter!

Hi soleils mom --

I moved to Canada from California summer 2002. That winter was the worst of my life, so I know what you're going through (we had bad weather to contend with, in addition to missing friends, family, stores-whose-names-we-knew, etc..) It does get better, though -- you'll make new friends and get comfortable where you are, but it make take some time and/ or adjustments. (In my case, we moved to downtown Toronto after a year, because we hated living in suburbia, but your millage may vary).

I wish you good luck with your transition! Good luck finding playgroups and new friends (mamas and otherwise). Sounds like you'll find your tribe just fine
