DH and I decided to start charting for 2 months before we started try to concieve and I am sooooo glad I did. I have been reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility which is an amazing book that every woman should read. Most Dr. won't tell you that you need to be off the pill for a few months before you start to try, but in her book she said the side affects of hormons after the first few months of stopping them can cause anovulation (lack of ovulation) an short luteal phase (the time between ovulation and menstration) If your luteal phase is too short it does not give the fertilized egg enough time to implant thus cause potential unwanted misscarrages that most women actully think is just a long cycle. But you would never know unless you were charting you fertility.

It's day 18 of my cycle and I still have absolutly no signs of ovulating and my temps are all over the place. I wonder how long it is going to take my body to normalize? In her book she also said that women who are thin (that would be me) and young (22, yep me too) and especially those who have lost %18 or more of their body weight while on the pill (I lost 55lbs which would be about %28 of my body weight) will have a harder time getting a normal cycle back after the pill. By harder time I just mean that it may take a lot longer.

This makes me wish I had stopped the pill a long time ago! I would have never know any of that had i not read the book. It is amazing how little most of us know about our own reproductive systems. Knowledge really is power. I'm telling everyone HAS to read this book, it has so much great info no matter what stage you are in life!

Ashley,

My cycles were all over the place too. I had 3 cycles in 6 months before 100mg of clomid kicked my ovaries into gear. One cycle was 111 days long! Progesterone did not reboot me!

My GYN said there is "NO WAY" that the pill could be affecting me that long. I was doing all kinds of tests and went to clomid pretty quick (I'm 38, no time to waste). I thought after charting and such that my ovaries were in a coma. Of course, the docs knew better. I even went to an RE. Anecdotal evidence suggests that I was right. :LOL

I too wish I had stopped the pill sooner.

Wow! That was quite a cycle! I look at your 111 day chart. I'm hoping that's not what mine end up doing. Is there anything I can do to clear the hormones out of my system faster? Or do I just have to wait it out? We really wanted kids 2 years apart, bu that may not happen. I think that after this expereince and learning about FAM I will never go back on the pill again. It's so many weird chemicals you are putting in your body!

Congrats on your pregnancy Amy!!! That is very exciting!

I stopped the pill a few months before TTC DD and I'm glad I did. I had long cycles and ended up O'ing around CD 35 when I got pg with her.

Turns out my thyroid was also off and so that may have affected my cycle lengths. I haven't had my first PP AF so I'm not sure what my cycles will be now that I'm treated for my thyroid condition.

Good luck!

I've been off the pill for 6 months, and am in the middle of my 4th cycle. My cycles have ranged from 38-54 days, with one annovulatory cycle thrown in for good measure. I'm so glad I read TCOYF and started charting. This sucks, but at least I know what's going on.

Here's hoping your body gets with the program quickly.

I didn't know about charting when we were TTC ds. I had been on the pill for 7 years. I went off Nov-Feb, then went back on the pill for Mar-Apr, and then conceived ds in June. So don't lose hope!

That's so great that you are charting and read TCOYF before you conviece! We didn't do that with # 1 and I wish we had b/c I would have been more aware of his actual due date and may not have been pressured into being induced. Good luck! We are TTC too. I actually just ovulated a few days ago which is great, but it's weird it was like my cervical fluid was scant and it had a delayed reaction to my temp shift. Also I noticed a huge change in my cervix, but it was even more delayed comapered to my temps. So weird! I guess it will just take a while for my body to get back in the swing of things again.

op -- great job stopping the pill and charting to prepare. just like you and amy, i did the pill young and was thinner and lost weight on it, too. It took me a long long time to regulate. The only thing that I found that helped me (not even chiro, acupucture, body work, etc) was Female Formula. Only thing is you can't take it while pregnant, so it's something to take when you're not TTC. http://www.zand.com/product_individu...?productid=594 I HIGHLY recommend it for evening things out after the Pill.
