how many infants can one mother breastfeed exclusively without having to supplement? Me and my friends were talking about this the other day, and I know twins are possible, but what about triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets? I know some people tandem three or four kids, but that's different than providing nutrition for 3 or 4 or more newborns. Is there a limit on what the body can handle? There may be an emotional limit because all you would be doing is breastfeeding if you had 3 or more, but I was mainly wondering wether there was a physical limit?

I nursed twins exclusively for 9 months. now one twin weaned
: but the other is going strong.....
and I am pumping for the weaned twin

anyway to answer your question- 'back in the day' a wetnurse would feed up to 6 babies....
I read it in Milk, Money and Madness- a book I borrowed from LLL
