Hello everyone. I have 5 year old twins in public school kindergarten. I am strongly considering doing school at home. In our state we have a choice between Calvert or K12 through the public schools so there would be no charge for the curriculum. I would like to learn more from people who have used either one and how they liked it.

Personally, I couldn't use either one. Though it may be nice since you're first starting out, both of those curriculums wouldn't leave me or my kids enough leeway to study other things that we're interested in.

Here's a recent thread on Calvert vs K-12????

A thread on K-12: Love it or hate it?

And an older one on Pre-packaged curriculum (Calvert) vs making your own

Either way, I'd suggest reading a few books about homeschooling - those can make a real difference - amd these two have input from lots of experienced homeschoolers:
The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child: Your Complete Guide to Getting Off to the Right Start, by Linda Dobson.
Homeschooling: The Early Years: Your Complete Guide to Successfully Homeschooling the 3- to 8- Year-Old Child, by Linda Dobson.

And here's a list of books on learning and homeschooling - you can usually "look inside" or "search inside" the books by clicking on the picture of their covers in the amazon.com site.

This current thread on "getting started" questions - Homeschooling, can we talk? - has links to lots of other input here in this forum:
