I have a SFG with corn in eight squares. Since the soil is so loose and the roots cannot go very deep, does anyone have any suggestions keeping the corn up right? Could I use bamboo poles and twine?
Bamboo and twine should work fine. You could also plant something trellised, like pole tomatoes or pole beans or cherry tomatoes on the upwind side to help act as a windbreak.
For future years you can also sow the corn in furrows and then when the corn is waist high, rake the soil back into the furrows.. The result is an extra couple of inches of soil for support (the buried stems well grow roots). I know this doesn't help you for this year though.
