Am I doing them wrong? I started doing them when I was pregnant with ds...and I'm really trying to be good about them this time around with #2...I just get such a weird feeeling when I do them...
:

I don't even know if I'm doing em right...

Can anyone give me the low-down? Do you have a kegal regimen? How hard do I have to squeeze anyway??

Try going pee and cutting off the flow midstream. Thats a kegal! Its not good to cut off the stream often since it can keep you from fully emptying your bladder but its a surefire way to learn how to do them.
It does feel like you are squeezing your arse!!! There are some Bradley Method execises that work on kegals.

Try doing 10 of them 2x a day for a few days and then up the number to 20 or whatever feels comfortable but where you are still increasing your numbers. Check out a bradley book to find out more or maybe an instructor or mama that can think this late at night will chime in!!

BTW try squeezing your partner when doing the deed this is a great kegal exercise as well.

And, I did take Bradley....
: I just have felt weird about them from the beginning...that reminds me I do need to dig out that book again...

I actually think now I am doing them right.....I just LOATHE doing them....
:

But I'm sure in the end (literally and figuratively...
) I will be glad that I did them!!

When I am pregnant and do kegals it makes me feel sorta queezy or dizzy or something too. I think its got something to do with blood pressure changes. Anyways good luck mamas!
~Angela~
btw when you feel it in your arse it is a good thing since you will be pushing that baby out with your bottom. I think what they mean is that you are useing the same muscles as when you kegal.

Ummm... they make me feel kind of "heady"... doesn't matter if I'm pregnant or not. It is a wierd feeling. It feels like I owe it more attention than I can give it at say a traffic light or something. I just never knew if that was normal or not.

Yess! I know exactly what you mean!
My friend does 20 of them each time she sees a yellow car when she's driving...

Sadly enough, they make me queasy too. I try to do em, and I know I should do more of them. But yeah they make me almost dizzy too and kinda nauseaous. Oh well...

I agree with you! The feeling they give me is definitely not nausea... it's nicer than that. I'll leave it there. But sometimes they feel kind of pinchy and uncomfortable. BTW, I never knew I was doing them right until today at my 6-wk pp checkup. My midwife had me do one while she was examining everything. Evidently I've mastered them ;-) So that's someone to have help you figure out if you've got it down.

be sure you are not squeezing your lower abdominal muscles when you're doing your kegels. put a hand on the lower part of your belly and see if it moves when you're doing a kegel. if it does, try again, isolating the PC muscles as much as possible. it may help to have a finger... or something else of your choosing
inside your vagina to help focus your body on where to squeeze.

You know, there's a nerve (vagal nerve???) that gets pressed on when you contract the anal sphincter. If it gets pressed hard enough you will pass out, I believe. Maybe those who get queasy from Kegels are tightening their keisters too much?

Perhaps someone who knows more about anatomy can explain this better! I think my explanation sounds like junk science. LOL.

I hate Kegels too, just can't remember to do them.

Junk science or not, that is just too funny!
