My children are visiting their father this week end, so I have the whole house to myself.

This means I can declutter with abandon!

Where would you start? (The whole house is pretty scary.
: )

TIA

I'm thinking of sending the kids away next weekend for that purpose - have DH take them to my MILs and declutter.

If I do that, I'm starting with the basement. I've been focused on other things too long and the basement is the dumping ground, got to get the crap out!

I would do the space where you think you can make the biggest noticeable dent. OR, depending on the ages of the kids and how they are, I might do the kids room/stuff while they were not there to tell me that everything was precious to them.

My kids just spent the night at grandmas house and I decluttered both their bedrooms. I got rid of 2 big black garbage bags of junk and the rooms are so nice and clean. It's really hard to declutter their rooms when they are around because every broken toy wants to be kept. But if I get rid of it when they are gone it is never missed.

Definaltley I would start in the kids room! What a wonderful thing to have a whole weekend to declutter everything in their room! (I envy you!
) Then if I got that done I would work on the living room! For me these are the 2 places in the house that never seem to get cleaned when the kids are home because they are always playing in either one! Then when you're all done with that sit down have a cup of tea or coffee (Or drink of choice!) and miss your kids but revel in the complete silence of the house! Enjoy! Erin!

Sorry, but I would just go read a book on the beach. Maybe clean out the basement at night or something since I don't them down there. Depending on your kids' ages though, I would be careful about tackling their areas when they are not home. If they are very young, they won't care. However, I have heard of kids being very upset by this. Consider going away for the weekend and someone throwing away half of your stuff.
