I landed in the ER on Sept. 4th with blood in my urin and sever back pain, and was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection. No history of uti's, except for five years ago under similar conditions (dehydration and exhaustion).

OK, so I thought as soon as I finished the mega anti-biotics I would be completely cured, but the follow-up doc says that even though the anti-biotics worked, I am still officially sick for six weeks. I keep thinking I should just get up and get going, but I do and I hurt so much, and am completely wiped out.

Any advice on getting through this quicker? I got some suggestions in a lovely PM (thank you MS. Mom ), but am wondering if anyone else also has some experiences or suggestions to share. Maybe its just that I am sitting here board, also I am wondering how legit it is that I still feel like sitting around so much. Alot of stuff is going by the wayside that my family is used to having, and I am just watching the house go downhill.

TIA,

Hi,

I wanted to just ask you one thing. Have you been diagnosed yet as to the cause of the UTIs? Have you ever been checked for reflux? Three of my children were born with a genetic condition in which during elimination, some of the urine shoots back up the ureters into the kidneys, causing UTIs. They were diagnosed as babies, but a friend of mine wasn't diagnosed until his mid-teens. So I am wondering if this has been ruled out for you or not. It is correctable, but antibiotics won't cure it, surgery is often required. Don't mean to bum you out.....if surgery's neccessary, I know it makes a difference like night and day. And no more antibiotics!

Good luck to you!!! Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Rebecca11--

Thanks for your response.

I have not been diagnosed as having that condition, and this is actually only the second UTI I have every had (I am almost 37). If it happens again I will look into that.

The only other uti I had was not as serious, but it occured in similiar circumstances-- dehydration and over work.

I am glad your kids are doing better-- wow, three of your kids having surgery, you must be a strong lady. Take care.

I had the same problem sixteen years ago. It too was at the end of summer. I was a SAHM to my three and I had be bicycling, and wearing the same bathing suit for a few days (yuck!) and I was dehydrated and tired so the combo was a prescription for a big UTI...

I had trouble peeing for three days...I took 10,000-20,000 IU of ascorbic acid a day ... no improvement;...

I boiled frozen cranberries in water and drank with raw honey...no improvement...

I boiled parlsey in water and drank it...no improvement...

I started passing blood in what little urine I could void, had major shooting pains in my kidneys...thought it was kidney stones... and went to the ER...

Sulfa drugs...knocked it right out...

Get lots of rest....three months later I was down again with symptoms that suggested meningitis....high fever, stiff neck, but it went away naturally...

Well, at least it did not/has not returned.

Have you had any radiology workups? Ultrasound, CAT scan?

I landed in the ER a week after my daughter's birth with a bad kidney infection. I was on IV antibiotics, but they couldn't send me home until I went 24 hours without a fever. After five days, they sent me for an ultrasound and CAT scan, and discovered I had a renal abscess.

I got diff abx, and sent home on a PICC line with IV abx for an additional two weeks. I finally kicked it, and am having regular ultrasounds to be sure it's resolving.

Just a thought?

Hi bizarrogirl,

I haven't had those work-ups, but this seems to be resolving. I will keep that in mind if it recurs, though.

Love your user-name!
