...and I am SOOO excited about it!

Just wanted to share.

The way my kitchen is set up I have a peninsula (instead of an island :LOL) with my oven and some counter space...on the other side of that used to be our "dinette" (ie super-small dining room).

A while ago we moved the kitchen table out of the dinette and into the living room/family room (*the room* that we live in) and made some space for an eventual play area.

My uncle is currently building a fence/gate for us out of wood (it is SOOO beautiful) and this will gate off the play area (mainly to keep the dog out...I'm so tired of pulling dog hair out of dd's mouth ) and to make a safe place where she can play and explore while I'm cooking.

My aunt is giving me a hand-me-down wooden kitchen set and eventually I'd like to get a doll house (when dd is a little older).

DH bought some primary color foam squares to put down on the floor (I'm torn about this...seems practical but foam isn't exactly in keeping in line with my attempts at a more natural/green home).

That's about it so far. But I'm very excited about it!! Since we didn't do a nursery this is the first time I've decorated/designed space for dd!!

Anyone else have a playroom/area in their house? What's it like? Do you have photos?

Oh Erin, as someone who "followed your story" thru your TTC days I am so happy that you are in the midst of the really "fun" parts of parenthood!

I think the foam squares are really good, though I know they are not very "green"

What about a tiny table and chairs (that's what we had in our play area).

I know that she is little for it now, but soon that would be great for "tea parties" "arts and crafts" etc....

Your play room plans sound beautiful! We use the foam mats and they work really well for little ones. I am not aware of a more enviro friendly alternative. Maybe try to get them used!

Good idea but DH already bought them. I think I'll just have to get over my aversion to foam. It seems like a really practical flooring for a play area.
