So I had my 2nd OB appt last Friday and got to hear the heart beats (there was actually 3, but one she said was mine - it better have been!!!). Anyways, on Monday when i left work there was a message on my cell phone from the office saying i need to call the office back. So i call the office back around 3 in the afternoon and the receptionist doesn't know anything and tells me that my Drs nurse won't be in that office until Thurs so it must have been the other nurse that called and she will get back to me at least by Thurs if not sooner and then says "i'm sure it is not life threatening!!" Oh, that makes me feel better. I sure hope it is not something that could be life threatening to one of my two babies either!!! I mean, if it was just something simple shouldn't she of just said on her message to me "it's no big deal" or something like that to help me not worry the rest of the week if i'm not going to hear from them until Thurs????!!!!! I had some blood work done that when i was in there on Friday the dr didn't have on my chart and told the office staff to find as i was walking out the door so it could be something from that or could have been my urine dip sample from Friday (or it could be nothing at all -hopefully it is this one). i just want to know what is up. Wouldn't you kinda be angry
: and a little nervous too??????????? I'm trying not to think about it!! Sorry just had to vent!!

I'm sure it is nothing, but in any case.....they have no right to leave you stressing for that amount of time. You have been through too much to even get pregnant......they need to understand that you have every right to be worried and making you wait till Thursday....is not ok. Why wasn't it written in your chart so that someone else could just tell you? Why couldn't they call a doctor and ask him/her? I would be upset as well and I think you should at least mention the poor communication on their part to your doctor, so it doesn't happen again. Grrrrrr

Oh, that IS annoying. Why must they do stuff like this? I am sure that it is nothing -- if it was something bad it would be in your chart and probably the dr rather than the nurse would talk to you about it. Probably something like, oh we need to get xyz bloodwork from you next time or something. So try not to worry! Of course, yeah, I would worry. So annoying.

Some people just don't think. That lady shouldn't have said that to you and perahps didn't even think of how it must have sounded. I would totally worry too and likely be a huge PITA to them until they told me. I hope it doesn't take long.

Can't you call the nurse at the other office and let her know you are stressing? I'd be furious, too. HUGS!

My office did something similar. Called on a Friday at around 3:58pm and said to please call back that I probably wouldn't catch them since they close at 4 but to call Monday as soon as I could. This was 2 days after an ultrasound and I was freaking out!

Turns out they just wanted to let me know they'd received my initial pregnancy blood work from my previous office. Ummm...thanks - yeah 'cause I really needed to know the minute you received the test stating I was STD free.

I know it isn't with mean intentions that they do this, but it is amazing how they fail to realize that most patients feel a little anxious about receiving any call from the doctor's office - there's even a name for it, for crying out loud!!! (White Coat Syndrome)

I'm not gonna lie, I would be murderously angry and would probably stomp into the doctor's office and demand to know who called me and why. LOL But I'm paranoid as it is and there is NO WAY I would be able to go even a few days without knowing why it was important for them to get ahold of me...

But if it makes you feel better, even I would tell myself and know in the back of my mind somewhere that if it were life threatening to either you or the babies, they wouldn't be waiting to contact you again.

I have had this happen too. It's frustrating but chances are it's something minor. However, my OB will call even after hours or on a weekend if it is something major. So chances are it's just a test or something. I know the stress isn't something needed when pg.

I would be so annoyed, too. Of course, I'm rather prone to catastrophizing these things when they happen to me.

Once, a month or so before my wedding, I had my annual gyn exam. A few days later, I came home in the evening to find a message from my gyn on the answering machine. "Hi, we got your pap smear results. I need to talk to you. Call back in the morning." I spent the evening absolutely sure that I would be this tragic young bride dying of cervical cancer. (Because, of course, not only would I have cancer, but it would be late-stage and totally nontreatable.)

Next day, I found out I had a (slight and non-symptomatic) yeast infection.

I'm betting you'll get the same sort of news when you get in touch with your doctor.

My OB is actually only in this one office (office A) on Thurs and Fri. and her nurse follows her to the other office (office B) so even if i did call the other office (B) they would have no clue b/c my chart was in office A - good idea though boobs4milk.

Okay, so i talked to the nurse today!!! It was pretty much nothing...she said that when i had my blood work drawn the lab didn't do a blood type and one other thing so i had to pick up a script today and go have it done. I told the nurse on the phone to please make a note on my chart that she can leave detailed messages on my voice mail from now on and that I wanted her to know that she had me a little worried for the last 3 days!!! She appologized but still... come on. How hard would it have been to say on my v.m. that "they need some more blood work done b/c the lab messed something up". Not that hard!!!! Thanks for all your replies!! Glad I'm not the only one, but wish it didn't happen to any of us!!!!!!

Did you sign a HIPPA release? I thought that HIPPA was supposed to not only CYA on medical things your dr COULDN'T release to others, but also allow you more access to your own personal information. I understand the papers are the property of the drs office, but that info is MINE and I've made it quite clear to the staff that me, my DH, and my two emergency contacts have FREE GRATIS when it comes to my chart.

I'm SO relieved that it was minor. HUGS!
