Can anyone tell me what these tests entail and what they mean? AGS Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL) 3rd edition. What kinds of questions will they ask and what happens if dd doesn't pass or is it even a pass/fail kind of test?

I'm pretty sure it's just a placement test. Some schools want to even out the classrooms, others arrange them according to ability so that they don't get bored students.

Same here. It's a very informal process, they usually take the first week or two of school and do "asssessment" to make sure all the kids are appropriately placed. On occasion, they'll recommend a student to move up to 1st grade based on that assessment, but very, very rarely.
