My nephew is getting married next September. These kids are just starting out so they've got no household items at all. I wanted to do something special for their shower, so I'm making things for a "kitchen trousseau." So far I have:
--2 double-thick crocheted potholders
--2 crocheted cotton dish cloths
--2 embroidered hand towels

Any other ideas? I'd love to do 4 napkins/placemats but I don't have any hot leads on a cool placemat pattern. I thought about going to the ceramics shop and making them a large bowl for salads or other dishes and then putting everything I've made into the bowl like a gift basket.

I've looked around my kitchen a zillion times and I can't seem to come up with anything else. Please help!!! Thanks!!

Well, it's not super-ultra-cool placement pattern,. but this one is quite nice: http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=135 you need to sign up, but I have not noticed an increase in spam from it.
That is all i can think of right now.

dish cloths, dish towels, those towels that hang from the fridge handle, uhm, mats to put hot food onto, a tea cozy, cheesecloth bags for herbs, cloth produce bags.. I could go on forever :p

I just made a couple of these crocheted bags. I think they're supposed to be good to store potatoes and onions in, as well as for reusable grocery bags. I liked the pattern a lot and it was very easy, but next time i'll make the handles more like this.

How about cookbks or recipe cards with your fave recipes?
Cookie cutters with cookie mix? I got this for a wedding present and thought it was fun-after 13 yrs I still have the cookie cutters.
I like the ceramic bowl idea-how about coffee mugs with coffee too?
How about lots of the little gadgets that people always need: wine bottle opener, nut cracker, different sizes of spatulas/spoons, pepper grinder, vegetable peeler....
Have fun
