My SIL is getting married in May and I'd like to make them something knitted. I have been looking around on knittingpatterncentral.com but don't want to be yet another person giving them hand towels, kwim? What should I do? I want something easy and fast yet beautiful!

In the handknit holidays book there are knitted lace photo mats - it sounds bad, but they look really nice - that and a frame with a nice picture of the two of them would be just lovely, i think.

Or, (also in that book) there's lace table cloth - the body of the cloth is linen napkins and they are sort of bordered with lace insets.

it's a lovely book - and my library had it, so yours may too.

My grandmother makes beautiful afghans (blankets) for wedding shower gifts. People anticipate them and are disappointed if she gives them anything else! If you know the colors they are decorating their home with you could use those or just pick neutral colors.

I think I would do a blanket or a throw in the best yarn I could afford - something really luxurious feeling, yk? the better the yarn, the simpler the pattern could be....

You could knit them a throw with nice yarn.

I know it would be spendy, but I would maybe do La Luz Silk, in a simple cable design. Of course, not sure of your budget though

Or maybe Bamboo. It is soooo soft!

I received a throw blanket for my wedding and loved it! Unless you are really sure of SIL's tastes it's hard to go wrong with a beautiful blanket in neutral colors.

It's funny you asked about this because I intend on knitting my brother and his fiancee a rug for their wedding present. I got The Knitted Rug by Donna Druchanas and it has over 20 designs, from easy to expert. There are a couple really spectacular-looking round rugs that are easy patterns, too. (Well, it says they're easy. I've not knitted them.)

You could also make some pillow cases (I think holiday knitted or last minute knitted gifts) has some neat ones - in interesting patterns. Find out about their color scheme and give it a go!

This was my thought too. Last Minute Knitted Gifts has a pattern for very cool floor cushion covers.

Ihave that book....FELTED KNITS....and there are some great kitchen items: potholder , oven mitt and tea cozy that match, pillows and even a felted rug thats beautiful. Ive also seen felted wine bags in another felted book, think it was Knit One Felt Too. You could put in a nice bottle of wine......and make all the items match.......
